    Pressemitteilung zu The Neal Morse Band The Neal Morse Band spielt ihren Progressive Rock am 13.06.2022 in der Markthalle in Hamburg Hamburg, Juni 2021 – Zuletzt waren sie im März/April 2019 hierzulande zu sehen, jetzt hat die Neal Morse Band eine weitere Deutschland-Tournee für den Juni 2022 angekündigt. Im Rahmen der Promotion ihres vierten Albums “Innocence & Danger”, das am 27. August 2021 erscheint, wird die Progressive Rock-Band um Bandleader Neal Morse am 13.06.2022 in der Markthalle in Hamburg auftreten. Im Laufe seiner Karriere hat der Gitarrist, Keyboarder und Sänger Neal Morse schon viele Höhen und Tiefen erlebt, bekannt wurde er als maßgeblicher Teil der Neo-Prog-Formationen Spock's Beard, Transatlantic und Flying Colors. Seit 2003 veröffentlicht Morse zwar auch Soloplatten unter seinem Namen, nun hat er sich aber auch wieder in ein Bandgefüge integriert: The Neal Morse Band (aka NMB) formiert sich in ihrer jetzigen Form 2012, zu den langjährigen Mitstreitern Morse’, Mike Portnoy (dr, v) und Randy George (b), kommen Bill Hubauer (key, v) und Eric Gillette (g, v) hinzu. “The Grand Experiment”, das Debüt der Band aus dem Jahr 2015, zeigt eine in diesem Bereich lange nicht gehörte Frische und Reife, die mit den folgenden Alben “The Similitude Of A Dream” (2016) und “The Great Adventure” (2019) weiter perfektioniert wird. Nun erscheint am 27. August 2021 mit “Innocence & Danger” das vierte Werk einer Gruppe von Musikern, die in ihrem Genre, dem progressiven Rock, allesamt eine Ausnahmestellung einnehmen. Nach den beiden vorherigen Konzept-Alben ist es schon erstaunlich, dass “Innocence & Danger” diesmal keiner roten Linie folgt.

    The Neal Morse Band – The Similitude Of A Dream (52:10, 54:07, 2 CDs, Radiant Records/Metal Blade /Sony Music, 2016) Im Vorfeld der Veröffentlichung des neuen Albums der Neal Morse Band wurden die größten Erwartungen geschürt. Drummer Mike Portnoy ging gar soweit, es zu dem Album seiner Karriere zu erklären. Vergleiche zu Meisterwerken wie „Tommy“ von The Who oder „The Wall“ von Pink Floyd wurden gezogen. Ziemlich starker Tobak also, und so viel sei gesagt – dem wird „The Similitude Of A Dream“ leider in keiner Weise gerecht. Geht man aber ganz neutral an die Sache heran, bekommt man ein durchaus abwechslungsreiches Prog-Album aufgetischt. Auf die Texte von Neal Morse sollte man als vernunftbegabter Mensch dabei aber besser nicht hören – es geht, wie zuletzt auch, um christliche Inhalte. Dieses Mal basiert die Thematik auf dem Erweckungswerk „The Pilgrims Progress“ des englischen Baptistenpredigers John Bunyan. Mit schlichten Worten versucht uns Morse hier für den Weg des Suchens und Findens Gottes zu begeistern, und er erwartet an der einen oder anderen Stelle auch noch Mitleid für dieses schwierige Unterfangen. Wer sich an sowas stört, schaltet besser gleich wieder aus. Aber auf der anderen Seite passen Geschichten über imaginäre Freunde eigentlich nicht so schlecht zu gängigen Prog-Klischees, manche singen ja auch über Einhörner und Drachen. I de mer folkrika städerna kan man ju i princip finna något att se/höra var dag i veckan. Konkurrensen om dess publik blir då naturligtvis även den hårdare, många som vågar (en eloge till er) får också svårare att få det gå ihop ekonomiskt men eldsjälarna verkar aldrig ge sig tack och lov. Det har blivit en hel del konsertrapporter och recensioner 2010 på ArtRock och ett stort tack till er skribenter som gett oss dessa. Karl-Göran Karlsson En introduktion till boken ”Mellotron – The Machine and the Musicians that Revolutionised Rock” skriven av Nick Awde (utgiven 2008 av förlaget Desert Hearts, www.deserthearts.com, England, rekommenderat pris £19.95) 1. Inledning De flesta människor har säkert hört musik spelad med Mellotron men om man frågar någon (ja, naturligtvis inte någon av er ärade Progrock/Artrock-nördar!) om han eller hon vet vad en Mellotron är så möts man i regel av klockrena fågelholkar. D v s, de fattar överhuvudtaget inte vad man menar. När man då antyder att det är en maskin med inspelade ljudsnuttar så lyser de upp och säger ”Aha – du menar en synth! Men – än sen då, det är väl inte så märkvärdigt?”. Suck och stön, säger jag bara. De har överhuvudtaget inte fattat någonting under dessa mer än 50 år som denna märkliga maskin funnits. Men vad har jag då för fog att påstå att de flesta någon gång har hört detta instrument (eller vad man nu skall kalla det) spela? Och varför skulle det vara något speciellt med Mellotronen i jämförelse med alla dessa keyboards och synthesizers som vällt över oss de senaste halva århundradet? Om jag då ger följande två exempel på låtar där Mellotronen haft en framträdande plats så undrar jag inte om polletten till slut faller ner: 1. Beatles: ”Strawberry Fields Forever” (utgiven 1966, egentligen inspelad för Sgt. Pepper-LP-n men istället utgiven som singel tillsammans med ”Penny Lane”, finns dock även på plattan Magical Mystery Tour) 2. The Moody Blues: ”Nights in White Satin” (singel utgiven 1967 och sedan även på LP-n ”Days of Future Passed” från samma år) När det gäller den första låten så känner väl de flesta till den.
