I de mer folkrika städerna kan man ju i princip finna något att se/höra var dag i veckan. Konkurrensen om dess publik blir då naturligtvis även den hårdare, många som vågar (en eloge till er) får också svårare att få det gå ihop ekonomiskt men eldsjälarna verkar aldrig ge sig tack och lov. Det har blivit en hel del konsertrapporter och recensioner 2010 på ArtRock och ett stort tack till er skribenter som gett oss dessa. Karl-Göran Karlsson En introduktion till boken ”Mellotron – The Machine and the Musicians that Revolutionised Rock” skriven av Nick Awde (utgiven 2008 av förlaget Desert Hearts, www.deserthearts.com, England, rekommenderat pris £19.95) 1. Inledning De flesta människor har säkert hört musik spelad med Mellotron men om man frågar någon (ja, naturligtvis inte någon av er ärade Progrock/Artrock-nördar!) om han eller hon vet vad en Mellotron är så möts man i regel av klockrena fågelholkar. D v s, de fattar överhuvudtaget inte vad man menar. När man då antyder att det är en maskin med inspelade ljudsnuttar så lyser de upp och säger ”Aha – du menar en synth! Men – än sen då, det är väl inte så märkvärdigt?”. Suck och stön, säger jag bara. De har överhuvudtaget inte fattat någonting under dessa mer än 50 år som denna märkliga maskin funnits. Men vad har jag då för fog att påstå att de flesta någon gång har hört detta instrument (eller vad man nu skall kalla det) spela? Och varför skulle det vara något speciellt med Mellotronen i jämförelse med alla dessa keyboards och synthesizers som vällt över oss de senaste halva århundradet? Om jag då ger följande två exempel på låtar där Mellotronen haft en framträdande plats så undrar jag inte om polletten till slut faller ner: 1. Beatles: ”Strawberry Fields Forever” (utgiven 1966, egentligen inspelad för Sgt. Pepper-LP-n men istället utgiven som singel tillsammans med ”Penny Lane”, finns dock även på plattan Magical Mystery Tour) 2. The Moody Blues: ”Nights in White Satin” (singel utgiven 1967 och sedan även på LP-n ”Days of Future Passed” från samma år) När det gäller den första låten så känner väl de flesta till den.

Mostly your lyrics are up to date and are dealing with actual social and political issues. I think the current Covid-19 situation is reflected indirectly, too. Do you share this point? Yes... you are right, there is an element of real world social and political awareness in The Tangent's music and has been since the third album. It is one of the things that give The Tangent its identity and difference with many other bands. Not everyone likes this aspect of our music, but many like the band because of this. We have this anonymous Hungarian guy who follows us about on Youtube telling everyone he hates our lyrics.. makes me laugh. So much cool music in the world for him to like but wastes his time hating ours. And at the same time we have a fan in the Australian Government who searches out our music simply because he feels that we are dealing with issues that he feels more people should be addressing. So.. as usual in the post internet world, lots of opinions, no answers. We don't give answers, we ask questions and hope people will ask them too. „Auto Reconnaissance“ is another of our socially aware albums, but this is far less about „politics“ - it's more about forgiveness, understanding and knowing one's self better.     Roine Stolt, Kaipa Da Capo, on the european tour a.o. Back to the roots Roine Stolt has been very busy in the past months, not only with his collaborations with Jon Anderson and Steve Hackett, but also with his revitalization of the 70ies legend Kaipa, due to Hans Lundins project to be called Kaipa daCapo. They will be on tour soon, good reason to talk with Roine about his new project. German version of the interview Kaipa released three symphonic classics in the Seventies. After changing their style drastically they disappeared in the early 80ies. At the end of the 90ies there was a plan to have a Kaipa re-union but at that time it failed. Why did it fail at that time and how did it happen that so many years later it worked? Well, I suppose the time wasn’t right. Fact is, when there was talk about playing and record Kaipa music again – already in early 1990 Hans Lundin told me that he did not feel a full reunion with Ingemar and Tomas would work. We needed more “virtuoso” players. I realized after some time that the real Kaipa “sound” wasn’t there anymore – even if Morgan, Jonas and Patrick are very fine musicians. So all this led me to joining with Tomas, Ingemar again and we asked Michael (Stolt) and Max (Lorentz) to form Kaipa DaCapo. We aimed at a more organic sound – far from the “fixed” sequencer recordings” – we just play the music – natural – no clock or metronomes. Have you tried to have the complete original line-up including Hans Lundin or was it clear that Lundin is keeping his own Kaipa version alive? Yes – as said – we tried a few recordings around 1990 – in Tomas studio – but these recordings never saw the light of day – Hans Lundin felt the recordings were not up to the standard.
