TENOR JONAS KAUFMANN DEBUTS IN BOLOGNA WITH THE ORCHESTRA OF TEATRO COMUNALE DI BOLOGNA The mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili was also guest of the gala; on the podium Asher Fisch Sunday 25 October 2020 at 8.30 pm - PalaDozza The international opera star Jonas Kaufmann will be the protagonist for the first time in Bologna of a gala evening proposed by the Teatro Comunale at the PalaDozza on Sunday 25 October at 20.30. The German tenor, one of the most appreciated and requested in the world, so much so that Amazon Prime Video has just dedicated a documentary to him entitled "A Global Star in Private", will make his debut with the Municipal Orchestra conducted by the Israeli Asher Fisch interpreting pages of Giuseppe Verdi, Giacomo Puccini, Georges Bizet and Jules Massenet. Next to him the great Georgian mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili, also making her debut in Bologna, who, together with the tenor, has just returned from the success of last summer in Giuseppe Verdi's Aida in Piazza del Plebiscito in Naples. «I can't wait to go back to making music in Italy - says tenor Jonas Kaufmann -. Together with Asher Fisch and Anita Rachvelishvili in Bologna we will propose a very beautiful and particular program: it will certainly be a fantastic evening for all opera lovers». Presenting partners of the event are Alfasigma and Illumia. Tickets, from 150 to 30 euros (Under30), will be on sale from Saturday 3 October at the ticket office of the Auditorium Manzoni in Via de 'Monari, 1/2 (from Tuesday to Friday from 12.00 to 18.00 and on Saturday from 11.00 to 15.00) and online at www.tcbo.it. Holders of any season ticket for the 2020 season will have the opportunity to purchase tickets starting from Tuesday 29 September at the ticket office of the Manzoni Auditorium. .

Later in the season, a second star-studded cast takes over, with Sondra Radvanovsky and Dolora Zajick as the leading ladies.Tenors Aleksandrs Antonenko and Yonghoon Lee alternate as Radamès, and Nicola Luisotti and Plácido Domingo take the podium for the Met’s monumental production. Synopsis: Aida (Guiseppe Verdi) The libretto indicates merely that the opera takes place in “ancient Egypt, in the time of the pharaohs.” This may sound vague, but it was a clear direction to approach the drama as myth rather than anthropology or history. Act I Egypt, during the reign of the pharaohs. At the royal palace in Memphis, the high priest Ramfis tells the warrior Radamès that Ethiopia is preparing another attack against Egypt. Radamès hopes to command his army. He is in love with Aida, the Ethiopian slave of Princess Amneris, the king’s daughter, and he believes that victory in the war would enable him to free her and marry her. But Amneris loves Radamès, and when the three meet, she jealously senses his feelings for Aida. A messenger tells the king of Egypt and the assembled priests and soldiers that the Ethiopians are advancing. The king names Radamès to lead the army, and all join in a patriotic anthem.

Tuesday 1 June 2021 The Royal Opera House announces full details of the 2021/22 Season • 11 new productions, including 5 world premieres, and 20 revivals. • An exciting roster of UK and international talent with many debuts The Royal Opera House today confirms details for its 2021/22 Season, the first full Season since 2019. Opening on Monday 13 September, the Season includes five world premieres from The Royal Ballet and The Royal Opera, classic revivals and an exciting roster of international and UK talent performing across the two stages of the Royal Opera House. In its 90th anniversary year, The Royal Ballet presents a Season that respects the past and heralds the future. Three world premieres, including Wayne McGregor’s The Dante Project, Christopher Wheeldon’s Like Water for Chocolate and a new work by American choreographer Kyle Abraham, are performed alongside much-loved 19th-century classics and heritage ballets by Frederick Ashton and Kenneth MacMillan. The Linbury Theatre hosts a raft of partnerships and co-productions including with Ballet Black, Alessandra Ferri, Yorke Dance Project and a world premiere from Company Wayne McGregor. Creative opportunities for emerging talent will also feature with Draft Works and the Next Generation Festival. Nikoloz Rachveli The Rest is Silence Requiem for Holocaust and violence victims for mezzo-soprano, mixed choir and orchestra *40 min World premiere - 19.12 2016 at the Teatro alla Scala Georgian Premiere - 27.12.2017 at the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theatre This composition, which was specially created for Anita Rachvelishvili's concert at the Teatro alla Scala, is dedicated to the memory of people who have been tortured and killed unjustly. The final words from Shakespeare's Hamlet are used for a title. The work is based on a poem "Death Fugue”, written by an outstanding poet Paul Celan (1920-1970) about his experience in the Nazi concentration camps. Five-piece vocal cycle consists of Georgian poet Vazha Pshavela’s (1861-1915) poem “I could not save anyone” and poem about Jewish boy - 1st part, 2nd part - The Fest of the Tortured Souls, 3rd - Hebrew lullaby by Emanuel Harussi (1903- 1979), 4th - "Death Fugue" by Paul Celan, and 5th part - Postludium, where Paul Celan reads his own poem written in the concentration camp. After the premiere on December 27, 2017 the mesmerized public was silent for a long time before a standing ovation. "Although defending human rights is the supreme value of humanity, injustice and brutality remains an irreparable problem of nowadays. If we consider the Earth as a whole, we find that the largest percentage of its population is still sacrificed to dictatorship, repression, the death penalty, political and religious confrontations, terrorist acts and territorial conflicts. Mental and technological progress has failed to protect the most vulnerable people until today; the world is still full of displaced refugees, innocent prisoners fighting for the freedom of speech.

The COC’s 65th season is once again comprised entirely of company productions, four of which are new to Toronto audiences, and features the COC’s first mainstage world premiere since 1999, COC premieres of opera rarities and the revival of classic masterpieces. Annual Report 2017–18 1 3 Introduction 5 Metropolitan Opera Board of Directors 7 Season Repertory and Events 13 Artist Roster 15 The Financial Results 48 Our Patrons 2 Introduction During the 2017–18 season, the Metropolitan Opera presented more than 200 exiting performances of some of the world’s greatest musical masterpieces, with financial results resulting in a very small deficit of less than 1% of expenses—the fourth year running in which the company’s finances were balanced or very nearly so. The season opened with the premiere of a new staging of Bellini’s Norma and also included four other new productions, as well as 19 revivals and a special series of concert presentations of Verdi’s Requiem. The Live in HD series of cinema transmissions brought opera to audiences around the world for the 12th year, with ten broadcasts reaching more than two million people. Combined earned revenue for the Met (box office and media) totaled $114.9 million. Total paid attendance for the season in the opera house was 75%. All five new productions in the 2017–18 season were the work of distinguished directors, three having had previous successes at the Met and one making an auspicious company debut. A veteran director with six prior Met productions to his credit, Sir David McVicar unveiled the season-opening new staging of Norma as well as a new production of Puccini’s Tosca, which premiered on New Year’s Eve. The second new staging of the season was also a North American premiere, with Tom Cairns making his Met debut directing Thomas Adès’s groundbreaking 2016 opera The Exterminating Angel.
