ESSENTIAL INFORMATION BOTSWANA, SOUTH AFRICA, ZAMBIA & ZIMBABWE PASSPORT AND VISA INFORMATION Your passport needs to be valid for at least six (6) months after your journey ends, and should have a minimum of thirteen (10) blank visa pages for entry and exit stamps. Note: you will need two (2) consecutive blank visa pages for each entry into South Africa. Botswana and South Africa Holders of U.S. and Canadian passports are not required to obtain a tourist visa for entry into either Botswana or South Africa for stays of up to 90 days. Zambia and Zimbabwe A tourist visa is required for U.S. and Canadian passport holders for entry into Zambia and Zimbabwe. A&K recommends obtaining a KAZA UNIVISA (valid for both countries) on arrival. KAZA UNIVISA: Can be obtained on arrival at certain ports of entry in either Zambia or Zimbabwe. It is valid for 30 days and allows multiple entries into either country. The current fee is USD $50 (subject to change without notice). This amount must be paid in cash in U.S. dollars. The allowable ports of entry include: Zambia • KK International Airport Lusaka • Harry Mwaanga International Airport Livingstone • Victoria Falls Land Border with Zimbabwe • Kazangula Land Border with Botswana Zimbabwe • Harare International Airport • Victoria Falls International Airport • Victoria Falls Land Border with Zambia • Kazangula Land Border with Botswana Availability of the KAZA UNIVISA can be sporadic. In the event the KAZA UNIVSA is unavailable, individual visas for Zambia and Zimbabwe can be obtained on arrival in each country as follows: Zambia • Single-entry visa for Zambia: USD $50. Valid for 90 days. • A “day trip” visa for Zambia: USD $20. Valid for one day (no overnight lodging). This visa is a good option for travellers staying in Zimbabwe who want to visit Victoria Falls from the Zambian side. • Note: Multiple-entry visas for Zambia are not offered on arrival. Zimbabwe • Single-entry visa for Zimbabwe USD $30. Valid for 30 days. • Multiple-entry visa for Zimbabwe USD $60. Valid for 60 days. All visa fees subject to change without notice. Of Special Note: Adults Entering and/or Exiting Botswana with Minor Children Botswana has instituted requirements for adults travelling with children under the age of 18. Parents travelling with children will be requested to provide an official birth certificate that includes the details of the full name of both the child's father and the mother of all travelling children. This applies even when both parents are travelling with their children and it also applies to foreigners and citizens of Botswana alike. When children are travelling with guardians, these adults are required to produce affidavits from parents providing permission for the children to travel. All documents must be in English. Both parents travelling with child: • When both parents are travelling with a child, such parents must produce an official birth certificate that includes the details of both the child's father and mother. One parent travelling with child: • In the case of one parent travelling with a child, he or she must produce an official birth certificate that includes the details of both the child's father and the mother. In addition, the parent must produce one of the following: • If the travelling parent has shared legal custody of the child: Consent in the form of an affidavit from the other parent registered as a parent on the birth certificate of the child authorizing him or her to enter into or depart from Botswana with the child he or she is travelling with. • If the travelling parent has sole legal custody of the child: A court order granting full parental responsibilities and rights, or legal guardianship, in respect of the child, if he or she is the parent or legal guardian of the child; or where applicable, a death certificate of the other parent registered as a parent of the child on the birth certificate. Child travelling with persons who are not their biological parents, for example adoptive parents, grandparents or persons given the parents’ approval to enter into or depart from Botswana with child: • Where a person is travelling with a child who is not his or her biological child, he or she must produce a copy of the official birth certificate that includes the details of both the child's father and the mother. • An affidavit from the parents or legal guardian of the child confirming that he or she has permission to travel with the child. • Copies of the identity documents or passports of the parents or legal guardian of the child. • The contact details of the parents or legal guardian of the child. • Where applicable: copy of an adoption order, death certificate or a court order granting full parental responsibilities and rights /legal guardianship in respect of the child. REQUIREMENTS RELATED TO COVID-19 Visit the U.S. Department of State at travel.state.gov or the Government of Canada at travel.gc.ca/travelling/advisories for comprehensive and up-to-date country entry requirements as well as information for onward travel. Entry Requirements The following are the current COVID-19 screening requirements for entry into Botswana, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe for U.S. and Canadian residents. Requirements are subject to change. Botswana • All travellers entering Botswana must provide printed, documented proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours of their departure for Botswana, immediately upon arrival. Any person failing to present a negative COVID-19 PCR test result will not be allowed to enter the country. • All travellers must take a COVID-19 rapid (antigen) test on arrival at all ports of entry in Botswana. The test takes approximately 20 minutes and results are provided within 15 minutes. There is no charge for this rapid test. In the event of a positive result, travellers will be subject to isolation and quarantine, and must remain in contact with the local health authority for a period of 14 days while self-monitoring. All related costs are the responsibility of the traveller. South Africa • All travellers entering South Africa must provide printed, documented proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours of their departure for South Africa, immediately upon arrival. Any person failing to present a negative COVID-19 PCR test result will not be allowed to enter the country. • All travellers are required to complete a Health Questionnaire not more than two days prior to arrival in South Africa. Print the completed form as it will need to be and presented to airline personnel prior to boarding your flight to South Africa, and/or immigration officials on arrival. To access this form visit ENTRY SCREENING THQ.pdf (airports.co.za). • Travellers are subject to medical screening on arrival in South Africa, including a temperature check, questionnaire, and visual assessment. Those presenting symptoms may be required to take a COVID-19 PCR test at the airport. Should the test prove positive, the traveller will be required to quarantine at a designated site for 10 days. All related costs are the responsibility of the traveller. • All travellers entering South Africa for the purpose of tourism must provide a printed copy of their day-by-day itinerary and contact list showing confirmed hotel reservations and addresses in the event they need to quarantine at the time of arrival. • All travellers must download the COVID Alert South Africa mobile app to assist with contact tracing. Any person failing to present a negative COVID-19 PCR test result will not be allowed to enter the country. ➢ Note: All travellers arriving into Zambia are subject to random COVID-19 testing at the discretion of the Zambian Ministry of Health. Those travellers selected will be required to transfer directly to their hotel/lodge/camp after the test and self-isolate in their room until a negative result is returned. The current cost is USD $120 (subject to change) and must be paid by cash in US dollars or local currency. Results are typically provided within 4 hours. Travellers who can present an official COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card indicating full vaccination at least 14 days prior to arrival are exempt. • All travellers must complete a Health Questionnaire, which will be provided by their airline, and present it to airport officials on arrival. • Travellers are subject to medical screening on arrival in Zambia, including a temperature check, questionnaire, and visual assessment. Those persons displaying symptoms of COVID-19 will be tested at the airport and will be required to enter isolation protocol at a Zambian government facility. Should results prove positive, the traveller will be required to quarantine at a designated site for 10 days. All related costs are the responsibility of the traveller. Zimbabwe • All travellers entering Zimbabwe must provide printed, documented proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 48 hours of their departure for Zimbabwe, immediately upon arrival.
