Enriching our Chicagoland Area communities for 20 years, we highly value knowing each student on a personal and artistic level. We are proud of the culture we’ve established wherein we cultivate a connection between the art we create and the communities in which we reside. We are thrilled to present new opportunities for our students to receive personalized training from, and exposure to, the professional community, as well as grow in an atmosphere that inspires service and excellence. Our priority is to produce confident students who feel empowered to make an impact in their community, both socially and artistically. As part of the Expand Community Arts Alliance, our studio strives to facilitate the growth of both strong dancers and community leaders. We ensure that every child has their needs met and has the chance to share their gifts with others. With two locations, the DMA offers instruction from highly qualified teachers who are dedicated to igniting community dialogue through an artistic lens. Our summer session is designed to offer students the opportunity to explore our vast and diverse programming. Our summer class series encourages dancers to try new styles to expand their technical and artistic knowledge as well as be inspired to grow into a more well-rounded artist. The series highlights technical, educational, and artistic components of a variety of styles and will challenge students of all ages and ability levels to grow in a positive, energetic environment. The weeklong summer camps foster creativity in the musical theater and performing arts realms. The summer dance intensive provides access to the professional dance world for our Prelude and Advanced students; complete with guest master teachers, a collegiate resource fair, and a showcase highlighting the work of the dancers for an audience of casting agents, professional dancers, and college scouts. We invite you to explore our programming and encourage you to contact us for more information. A NOTE ABOUT COVID-19 AND OUR SAFETY PRECAUTIONS: The safety and care of our students is a top priority for us. After consulting with medical professionals and applying the governmental and World Health Organization guidelines, we have have created a business Code of Conduct that represents the high standard of integrity that our staff feels confident teaching under. Each participant will have a very important role in the production, which will take place at the end of the week. Students will be given a script for the show on Monday, and will be learning both the music and choreography for the songs as well as creating backdrop pieces for the performance. The final performance will take place at 11am on the last day of camp. Ingenues (campers ages 3-5) will meet daily from 9-11am. Participants will take classes in ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, musical theatre, acting, and modern/contemporary. Entertainers will also have an Artists Lab, where they will delve into dance history, choreograph their own dances, and learn the behind-the-scenes components of producing a dance performance, which will occur on the last day.

    The Queer of Color Sound Economy in Electronic Dance Music Blair Black Within electronic dance music cultures (EDMCs), musicality and experi- mentation have been indebted to black and Latinx DJs of color since its inception in the 1980s. Even today, queer DJs of color continue to push the envelope of experimental EDM by showcasing dance music from the “global south,” centering remix styles that border between hip hop and EDM, and sampling cultural references popular in queer communities of color. This article explores music’s complex entanglements with identity and community for queer people of color in underground electronic dance music scenes. To be specific, the individuals within these communities self-identify as racial/ethnic minorities on the genderqueer spectrum of non-normative gender and sexual identities (gay/lesbian, trans, non- binary, etc.). Moreover, I argue that these socio-economic positions act as an impetus of a sound economy – the shared system of socio-cultural aesthetics – for queer communities of color in EDM. The first section dis- cusses the identity politics that underlie this sound economy by tracing how intertextuality allows DJs to display these minoritarian1 perspectives. I then highlight why (re)centering racialized queer identities is radical by tracing EDM’s political shifts. Specifically, I highlight how narratives sur- rounding EDM changed due to the demographic turn in Europe during the 1990s. The last section explores the re-emergence of pivotal queer DJs of color and the scenes they founded in Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York by focusing on the flows of culture and people between cities to point to a more extensive global network of racialized queer communities in constant musical and political dialogue.
