  • Bass Coast Flyer
Bass Coast Flyer In this edition of the Flyer you will meet Sue Woolley, BLBC’s new secretary, read outing reports, find out the dates of BirdlIfe Bass Coast special activites and read some interesting articles - Birds On Farms, a Naidoc story, survey results from a survey at Cape Paterson and have the chance to vote to support the Corinella Wetlands project. BLBC is a member of the 3mFM community and all activities are listed on their calendar. We hope to be more active in this space this next year. Also you will find some useful websites to help with bird identification. There are opportunities for you to join the committee, to report on conservation issues in your community or to provide local news for the newsletter. Please keep in touch and keep the committee informed. Penny Manning. Editor. Convenor’s Report Well, what a big time it's been for BirdLife Bass Coast since our last newsletter. At the A.G.M. all executive positions were filled. Penny Manning was re-elected as treasurer, I retained the convenor position, Dallas Wyatt declined re-election as secretary and Sue Woolley has now filled this position. A big thank you to Dallas for all the hard work he has done in the past year. Fortunately Dallas remains on the committee as do Nola Thorpe and Gordon Barrett. A very big thank you to long time committee members John Adam and Helen Dennis who have both resigned. Their contributions to the committee meetings will be sorely missed. We still have vacancies on the committee and we would like to hear from you if you are interested.

  • Lance Creek Water Connection Community Update November 2017
Community Update NOVEMBER 2017 Preparing for Construction – Lance Creek to Korumburra Pipeline On-site preparation for the Lance Creek Water Connection pipeline is well under way along-side the Korumburra-Wonthaggi Road at Jumbunna. The pipeline alignment has been planned along the most direct and effective route and to avoid steep slopes and areas of Flora and Fauna and Aboriginal Cultural Heritage significance. The project has two sections; a 20km pipeline from the Lance Creek Reservoir to the Korumburra Water Treatment Plant and a 9km pipeline from Korumburra to the Poowong Water Treatment Plant. Crews from Jaydo Construction are currently preparing the pipeline construction corridor from Kongwak to Korumburra, installing access points, carrying out fencing and survey works, and commencing earthworks. Delivery of pipeline materials to lay-down areas on property in the Jumbunna area has commenced. Pump Stations Some of the terrain between Lance Creek and Poowong is particularly steep, so new water transfer pump stations are needed at both the Lance Creek Water Treatment Plant and Korumburra clear water storage. The pump stations will enable water to be transferred from Lance Creek up through the hills of Kongwak and Jumbunna to the Korumburra clear water storage, a total height difference or lift of 209m. From Korumburra a smaller pump station will transfer the water across to Poowong. Pump station construction is currently underway at the Lance Creek Water Treatment Plant with Simpson Construction focusing on the installation of new piping infrastructure to the Lance Creek clear water storage tank. South Gippsland Water | ph. 1300 851 636 | e. [email protected] | www.sgwater.com.au Korumburra-Wonthaggi Road With early works commencing, locals will see increased activity on the ground between Kongwak and Korumburra.

South Gippsland Recreational Vehicle (RV) and Camping Position Paper (Draft) Contents Introduction 1 Tourism in South Gippsland 2 Industry Overview 3 Recreational Vehicle Schemes 4-5 Commercial RV & Camping Industry 6-7 Free/low cost RV & Camping sites 8-9 Free/Low cost Site Guidelines & Criteria 10 Long Vehicle Parking 11-12 Dump Points 13-14 Signage 15 Future Direction 16 Introduction The South Gippsland Recreational Vehicle (RV) and Camping Position Paper provides ways for Council to support and enable the local recreational vehicle (RV) and camping industry in South Gippsland. Since the adoption of the 2014 Recreational Vehicle (RV) Strategy, South Gippsland has seen market growth and the RV and camping industry continues to evolve. Many visitors still seek traditional caravan parks and camping grounds with facilities, however, there is an increase of independent and self- sufficient freedom campers who seek free/low cost sites with limited facilities. All six Gippsland Councils support their local RV and camping industry, either through a formalised strategy, plan or position. Many priorities include the development of infrastructure to support overnight stays, designated long vehicle parking, and dump point sites. Some of these sites and facilities are supported by Council and operated by a Committee of Management. South Gippsland Shire Council continues to take a strategic approach to support the industry which includes tourism operators and RV users. This position paper provides strategic direction to guide planning and grow the RV and camping industry in the Shire. The following areas form the key focus of Council’s position and directly impact the RV and camping industry: 1.
