“The Lemnos' Friends of Anzac” Association Report ) “THE LEMNOS’ FRIENDS OF ANZAC” ASSOCIATION REPORT (August 2014 – December 2015) ASSOCIATION FOR THE PROMOTION OF THE ROLE OF LEMNOS ISLAND IN THE WW1 The Association “The Lemnos' Friends of ANZAC” is established to highlight the role that Lemnos island has played during the WW1, and especially during the Gallipoli Campaign. It’ s an Association, established by Lemnians or people who love the island and Greece in General . The Centenary Commemoration of the Gallipoli Campaign provided an important opportunity to all of us, to reflect upon and learn from our common history. The Gallipoli Campaign remains to this day, a testament of courage, bravery and self-sacrifice on all sides of the conflict. It is a historic event, that has shaped our national identities, that has forged unbreakable bonds of friendship. Through a number of commemorative events and cultural activities before, after and throughout the Commemorative year, the people of Lemnos will honor the service and sacrifice of the men and women who served at the Campaign, but also pay tribute and recognize the significant contribution of their own forebears. With our help, we try to teach the new generation of this great historical moment, and show the important role of Lemnos in this global historical moment 2 MAIN TARGETS FOR THE ASSOCIATION • Raise the awareness for the Great historical event of Gallipoli Campaign • Raise the awareness of the role of Lemnos in the WW1 • Find and highlite the effects of this historical event in the Lemnos history • Present globally the role that Gallipoli Campaign had as a starting point for Greece’s Modern History 3 PROUD TO PRESENT FROM AUGUST 2014-DECEMBER 2015 -Great List Of Events -Media Covering Globally With More Than 1 Million Audience -5 Major Photographic Exhibitions -Representing The Island In All Commemorative Events In Greece -International Conference In Lemnos -Social Media Pages, Website And Internet Tv -Funding And Sponsoring To The Main Events In Greece, Turkey And Australia -Creating 4 Videos And Films For The Awareness LEMNOS ISLAND 1915-HELLAS 5 LEMNOS ISLAND 1915-HELLAS 6 That’ s how we started- 2014 how First presentation in a major Hotel in Athens: On the occasion of the Centenary of the Gallipoli Campaign in 2015, we had invited to an event organized by the Association “Lemnos' Friends of ANZAC”, in collaboration with the Hellenic-Australian Business Council, Ambassadors and Military attachees from 10 countries , Ministers, Deputy Ministers , Congressmen and representatives of all Greek political parties. Also great story to prove the real connection between this moment of the WW1 History with Lemnos and Greece. The shootings were on the spot where the 3AGH was. All spots found with the great help of Mr Manolis Ioannidis, member of our Association Reach of 686,000 viewers 9 LEMNOS LYCEUM PERFORMANCE ,UNIVERSITY OF 2015 NSW, 7 MARCH 2015 The Sydney Lyceum, invited and we supported International Lyceum groups from Lemnos and from Kavala with local musicians in a great performance which was attended by more than 700 people.
