This set of rules was made to accomplish two goals. First, to provide a framework for stories. Being creative is much easier when there are guidelines to use as inspiration. Second, to help make JumpChain more interesting. Blatant wish-fulfillment powerwank is not interesting, in this writer's opinion - but solving problems and finding solutions to obstacles is fun.

********** ********** ********** ********** ********** **********

Main Rule • The Drop-In origin is mandatory for the jumper and all companions.

Choice Points • ?Once a jump of a given rating has been completed, jumps more than one tier below it grant no CP, except that gained by taking drawbacks.? • Up to 1000 unspent CP may be reserved. • There is no free CP for Warehouse; instead, jumpers must spend reserved CP. There is a spending limit of 1000CP for the warehouse (multiply all CP costs by 5).
Fuck your other supplements: Body Mod is nonsensical, the others make things far too easy.
Jumps • You must write at least 500 words about a jump, before you take another. • Jumps are randomly selected from among those with a rating of one below to one above the highest rated completed jump. (E.G. if a 3 has just been completed, but the highest level of any cmpleted jumps is 4 then the next jump will be a 3, 4, or 5.) The exception to this is that for every 10K words you write, you receive a FREE CHOICE of jump. This choice does not have to be made immediately. • Starting location is always rolled for. You can spend 50CP to argue with Jumpchan and re-roll. Tough luck if it turns out the same. No choosing gender or age unless it's offered free of charge, either. • Jumps will closely, but not perfectly match the source material, and are subject to realistic forces. The resemblance will be there, but names, dates, locations, and details may not be what you expect. If the Jump is a large one, you are unlikely to run into the main cast by accident. • "Canon" plots are mostly butterfly-resistant. As long as you don't meddle, things will go pretty much as they did before. Once you involve yourself, however, all bets are off. • Some settings have multiple jumps. In such cases, your actions in previous jumps become history for the next jump in the sequence. Companions • Companions must be podded (or at least in the warehouse) at the end of the previous jump. If a jump ends with a companion who isn't stored, they will be lost forever (or until you go back). • Companions die when they are killed. • Imported companions (excepting groups) pick what any CP alloted to them is spent on. • New companion purchases may serve to import a companion, who gains any perks, alt-forms, or other qualities that purchased companion would have had. • You do not have to purchase a companion to stuff a random person in a stasis pod. • Multi-person companions are not treated as normal companions. They lose the ability to be imported, except into another multi-person companion role. The group gains the quality that they can be stored in the warehouse, or transferred along with any following properties, without the need of stasis pods.

Alt Forms • Any sufficiently different bodies granted by perks become alt-forms. • When appropriate, all forms scale to the age set when entering the Jump. • Unless otherwise stated, Jumpers can swap between alt-forms by concentrating for a handful of seconds. • All alt-forms benefit from perks applied to the base form. The reverse is not true. Physical perks apply only to the form provided when the jump is entered.

********** ********** ********** ********** ********** **********

Exist • The threats NPCs face on a daily basis (knowingly or not). Take note of inequalities among populations/areas.

Active • The average day in the life of a . The danger an active (if minor) member of the canonical cast faces regularly.

Derail • The highest level of problems a jumper could encounter (tracked down, or drawn in by messing about) in the setting.

********** ********** ********** ********** ********** **********

0 Peaceable, justified expectation of safety, real-world levels of risk or less.

0.5 Conflict not unexpected, but at baseline level. Typical for historical settings.

1 Conflict expected, war zones, magic is Reliable/Simple/Safe, tech is utility, not military. Action Movie.

1.5 Constant baseline threats, RPG combat magic, magic/advanced tech brings new problems, won't stay dead.

2 No-sell baseline opposition, Clarke Tech, common problems require uncommon supernatural or preternatural tech solutions.

2.5 Speedsters, mental contamination, active gods, unexpected threats are common.

3 Existential threats, wish magic, reality warping, conceptual magic, YHWH-level enemies are a certainty.

Each perk contributes (CP+50*(EAD))/(500-50*(EAD).

Where CP is the cost (before discounting), EAD is the average values of Exist, Active, and Derail of the setting for the jump in which the perk was purchased.

After collecting any relevant contributions to the situation, do the following: Sum all of the numbers. Take the square root of the sum unless the sum is less than one.

The resulting number (significant to two decimal places) will be the upper bound (the lower bound is 0) of the random function used to "roll" a value.

This random value is compared to a target: a number similarly derived from the specifics of the situation (exactly how is TBD). The higher the value is than the target, the better the result.

********** ********** ********** ********** ********** ********** SETTING & GENRE

********** ********** ********** ********** ********** **********
