Bogor Botanic Gardens is an ex-situ conservation centre, covering an area of 87 ha, with 12,376 plant specimens, collected from Indonesia and other tropical countries throughout the world. One of the richest collections in the Gardens comprises members of the aroid family (Araceae). The aroids are planted in several garden beds as well as in the nursery. They have been collected from the time of the Dutch era until now. These collections were obtained from botanical explorations throughout the forests of Indonesia and through seed exchange with botanic gardens around the world. Several of the Bogor aroid collections represent ‘living types’, such as Scindapsus splendidus Alderw., Scindapsus mamilliferus Alderw. and Epipremnum falcifolium Engl. These have survived in the garden from the time of their collection up until the present day. There are many aroid collections in the Gardens that have potentialities not widely recognised. The aim of this study is to reveal the diversity of aroids species in the Bogor Botanic Gardens, their scientific value, their conservation status, and their potential as ornamental plants, medicinal plants and food. -

A new species is easily distinguished from the other species of the genus in Indo-China in having short petioles less than 4 mm long, obovate-oblong or oblong-elliptic leaf blade with rounded to slightly cordate base, and 18–24 pairs of secondary veins. Keywords: flora, Indochina, Sapindales, taxonomy Introduction The genus Gluta Linnaeus (1771: 293) is trees or rarely shrubs of Aacardiaceae distributed from Madagascar, India, Myanmar, Indo-China, Thailand, to throughout Malesia (Kochummen 1996, Chayamarit 2010). It consists of about 30 species, among which four species have been known from Laos: G. cambodiana Pierre (1897: 368), G. laccifera (Pierre 1885: 538) Ding Hou (1978a: 14), G. tavoyana Wallich ex Hooker (1879: 22) and G. usitata (Wallich 1829: 29) Ding Hou (1978a: 21) (Tardieu-Blot, 1962, Newman et al. 2007, Chayamarit 2010, Gardner et al. 2015). Whilst conducting botanical exploration of Vientiane Capital, Central Laos by the second and third authors, an interesting Gluta species was discovered in mixed deciduous forest. -

Taxonomic revision of the threatened African genus Pseudohydrosme Engl. Closely related to Anchomanes, Pseudohydrosme is distinct from Anchomanes because of its 2-3-locular ovary (vs. unilocular), peduncle concealed by cataphylls at anthesis and far shorter than the spathe (vs. exposed, far exceeding the spathe), stipitate fruits and viviparous (asexually reproductive) roots (vs. sessile, roots non-viviparous), lack of laticifers (vs. laticifers present) and differences in spadix: spathe proportions and presentation. However, it is possible that a well sampled molecular phylogenetic analysis might show that one of these genera is nested inside the other. In this case the synonymisation of Pseudohydrosme will be required. Three species, one new to science, are recognised, in two sections. Although doubt has previously been cast on the value of recognising Pseudohydrosme buettneri, of Gabon, it is here accepted and maintained as a distinct species in the monotypic section, Zyganthera. However, it is considered to be probably globally extinct. Pseudohydrosme gabunensis, type species of the genus, also Gabonese but probably extending to Congo, is maintained in Sect. Terdapat perbezaan morfologi antara tumbuhan yang disampel daripada lokasi yang berbeza. Jumlah bilangan tumbuhan, jumlah daun per kuadrat, jumlah berat kering tumbuhan, luas permukaan daun, berat kering daun, rizom, akar, runners dan buah sinkarp direkodkan. Luas daun spesifik (SLA), nisbah luas daun (LAR), nisbah berat daun (LWR), nisbah berat rizom (RhWR), nisbah berat akar (RWR) nisbah berat pucuk (SWR) dan nisbah berat runner (RUWR) turut direkod. Analisa tanah dan sukatan air in situ turut dijalankan. Analisa pertumbuhan pokok berkait dengan lindungan dan kadar fotosintetik turut dikaji. Kata kunci: Cryptocoryne ciliata, Ciri-ciri Morfologi, Allokasi Biojisim Abstract: The distribution pattern of Cryptocoryne ciliata (Roxburgh) Schott (Araceae) along 22 km of Sungai Sarawak, Kuching was studied. There was a morphological variation between the plants collected at different sampling points. Number of plants, leaves per quadrate, total plant dry weight, leaf area, dry weight for leaves, rhizomes, roots, runners and syncarpous fruit were recorded. Specific leaf area (SLA), leaf area ratio (LAR), leaf weight ratio (LWR), rhizome weight ratio (RhWR), root weight ratio (RWR), shoot weight ratio (SWR), and runner weight ratio (RuWR) were also recorded. Soil analyses and the in situ water measurement were also carried out. -

Sacred Groves : Repositories of Medicinal Plants
This volume brings together case studies on the emergent approaches in cultivation and conservation of medicinal plants. It contains articles featuring systematic procedures in studying the growth conditions and habitat requirements of the medicinal species in the wild populations and deployment of this information in successful domestication and fashioning of benefi t-sharing models involving cultivators and industries. Evaluation of the available agro-technologies for selected medicinal species are presented with a survey of possible integration of medicinal plants to multi-tier homestead agroforestry systems and systems of intercropping. Highlighting the need for concerted efforts in overcoming the technological and institutional barriers, this compendium envisions an intense period of innovations in medicinal plants’ cultivation.
