The program has three levels, BRONZE, SILVER and GOLD, and is open to anyone between the ages of 14 and 24. It is a voluntary program that encourages young people to set their own goals and work towards achieving them in the areas of community service, adventurous journey, skill development and physical fitness. Achievement at any level is an indication of a young person who is able to sustain a commitment, overcome personal challenge, has developed time management skills, and someone with a well-rounded area of interests and a commitment to their community. It also enhances any application to post-secondary education and is a significant addition to any resume. Participants select which category to dedicate the extra months. GOLD 12 months 12 months 12 months Preliminary training: (52 weeks) Practice Journey: minimum start age 16 2 days + 1 night Qualify in 5 sections Average of one hour per week dedicated to each activity over the time period Qualifying Journey: as indicated 4 days + 3 nights 5 days + 4 nights If a Direct Entrant to the Award (have not achieved Silver) then an extra 6 months is required in 8 hours of purposeful effort either: Service, Skills or Physical Fitness. Participants select which category to dedicate the per day extra months.
