The main differences between the new species and the previously recorded species in the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea, Cymadusa compta and Cymadusa setosa respectively, are also presented. The material was collected during 12 summer expeditions organized from Diversity; 1997 to 2013. In all, 24 pelagic and 116 benthic taxa were recorded, most of them widely Distribution distributed Arctic-boreal species. The advection of different water masses from the shelf had a direct impact on the structure of the pelagic Malacostraca communities, resulting in the clear dominance of the sub-arctic hyperiid amphipod Themisto abyssorum in Kongsfjorden and the great abundance of Decapoda larvae in Hornsund. The taxonomic, functional and size compositions of the benthic malacostracan assemblages varied between the two fjords, and also between the glacier-proximate inner bays and the main fjord basins, as a result of the varying dominance patterns of the same assemblage of species. There was a significant drop in species richness in the strongly disturbed glacial bays of both fjords, but only in Hornsund was this accompanied by a significant decrease in density and diversity, probably due to greater isolation and poorer quality of sediment organic matter in its innermost basin. -

Physical, chemical, and ecological characteristics 1.1 Seamounts Seamounts are predominantly submerged volcanoes, mostly extinct, rising hundreds to thousands of metres above the surrounding seafloor. Some also arise through tectonic uplift. The conventional geological definition includes only features greater than 1000 m in height, with the term “knoll” often used to refer to features 100 – 1000 m in height (Yesson et al., 2011). However, seamounts and knolls do not appear to differ much ecologically, and human activity, such as fishing, focuses on both. We therefore include here all such features with heights > 100 m. Only 6.5 per cent of the deep seafloor has been mapped, so the global number of seamounts must be estimated, usually from a combination of satellite altimetry and multibeam data as well as extrapolation based on size-frequency relationships of seamounts for smaller features. Estimates have varied widely as a result of differences in methodologies as well as changes in the resolution of data. Yesson et al. (2011) identified 33,452 seamount and guyot features > 1000 m in height and 138,412 knolls (100 – 1000 m), whereas Harris et al. (2014) identified 10,234 seamount and guyot features, based on a stricter definition that restricted seamounts to conical forms. Estimates of total abundance range to >100,000 seamounts and to 25 million for features > 100 m in height (Smith 1991; Wessel et al., 2010). -

Cada especie ha sido situada en una tabla que se corresponde con las ecorregiones marinas de Cuba, donde además se ofrece el número de veces que dicha especie ha sido colectada en cada localidad, así como el tipo de sustrato. Ce recensement tient compte des dernières révisions systématiques et des prospections du suprabenthos à l’échelle de la Manche. Les inventaires dans les trois régions de la Manche occidentale considérées (Roscoff, Plymouth et Golfe normano- breton) présentent une richesse spécifique plus importante que dans les deux régions de la Manche orientale examinées, (Baie de Seine et Wimereux) : Roscoff (202 espèces), Plymouth et Golfe normano-breton (194), Baie de Seine (130) et Wimereux (136). Cet inventaire traduit ainsi l’appauvrissement spécifique d’ouest en est, en relation avec un gradient cli- matique. Ce sont les premières signalisations pour l’inventaire de Roscoff de Corophium sextonae et de Lysianassa insperata. An up-to-date list of the amphipods from the English Channel is given for the first time counting 255 species. This inventory is based on recent systematics and suprabenthic studies. The number of species is higher in the western part of the Channel (Roscoff, Plymouth, Golfe normano-breton) than in two areas in the eastern part (Bay of Seine) and Wimereux: respectively, Roscoff (202 species), Plymouth and Golfe normano-breton (194), Bay of Seine (130) and Wimereux (136).
