www.stow-borders.co.uk Stow & Fountainhall COMMUNITY NEWSLETTER ISSUE 29 ~ summer/autumn 2017 CULTURE ON OUR DOORSTEP CULTURE ON OUR DOORSTEP If you’ve been around in our part of the Gala Water valley this summer you’re likely to have been aware of the rich mix of cultural events that our part of the world seems to have developed a thirst for and which it’s bursting to slake. Stowed Out, a triumph of local passion and organisation, has just finished at the time of collating the newsletter - our own Music and Arts Festival which brings to the Quoiting Green annually an ever-evolving mix of musicians to the sound stage; contemporary performers to the ROAR spoken word stage; and connects this year with the thought-provoking Cloudhouse Café and Gallery-based ‘Sanctuary’ exhibition of painting and sculpture by local artists, inspired by our area’s history and location, curated by one of our local artists, and running until late September. A few days after Stowed Out, two Fellows of the Royal Photographic Society connected to our locality, gave an enthralling photography presentation in Stow Town Hall which was enthusiastically attended. Over the summer Fountainhall Village Hall committee brought a play, an (orchestral) performance and puppets to our smaller village, enriching our days and cementing Fountainhall as a venue for small touring theatre companies - a direction of travel begun earlier this year. The Backroad Picture House began in late 2016 and its programme for the coming season is unveiled inside offering another fine mix from classic to contemporary films, across genres, for both adults and children over the coming winter. -

Executive Summary • Recent research has highlighted an increasing separation of work and residential location as commuting journey lengths increase. This is particularly the case for rural residents, who tend to have longer commutes than urban residents. Whilst commuters bring money to their place of residence that has been earned outside the locality, they also represent a leakage of money from the locality often commuting for work is associated with commuting for other activities, including retail and leisure spending. -

The notification reflects the significance of the SSSI as a prime example of a “whole river system”, which in turn supports other notified features including: salmon, otter, rare plants, rare fish and assemblages of invertebrates. -

Northumberland Local Plan Publication Draft Plan Infrastructure Delivery Plan (IDP) May 2019 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The Northumberland Infrastructure Delivery Plan (IDP) has been prepared in support of the Northumberland Local Plan. It identifies the likely infrastructure requirements, associated with the Local Plan over the plan period, up to 2036. The IDP is the output of long standing engagement with infrastructure providers to identify current infrastructure capacity, and to determine the likely future infrastructure requirements, associated with sustainable growth in Northumberland. Focussing on strategic infrastructure requirements, the IDP seeks to identify completed, committed, and planned investment across physical, social and green infrastructure types. It is intended to be a key mechanism by which to coordinate the investment and delivery plans of infrastructure providers to best effect. Where possible the IDP identifies where funding for infrastructure will come from. It also identifies where there are funding gaps. The collective funding gap could underpin the potential introduction of a Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) in Northumberland. There are no infrastructure requirements which are ‘critical’ to the delivery of the Northumberland Local Plan. However, there are some existing pressures on infrastructure and anticipated future pressures as a result of growth, development, demographic changes and other factors. Notably, necessary infrastructure requirements principally relate to: - mitigation or improvement works for a limited number of junctions on the road network; - the need for additional healthcare services to cater for a growing population; - a limited number of areas where additional school provision is required; - timely provision of works to ensure adequate waste water treatment capacity. Plans, programmes and projects have been identified to address these infrastructure requirements, and a range of other requirements which will help ensure the sustainability of Northumberland’s existing and new communities. -
