1 A SUMMER IN WALES Monday, September 10, BBC One Wales, 7.30pm

Over the course of summer 2012, BBC Cymru Wales turned its cameras on an eclectic range of people - from binmen to marchionesses, funfair showmen to boutique hoteliers, campsite owners to castle proprietors and from holidaymakers to farmers. Capturing the entertaining and the quirky, the exciting and the unusual, the poignant and the everyday, through pouring rain, howling gales and all-too-rare sunshine, the result is A Summer in Wales documentary chronicling the story of one summer.

In this opening episode of the series, all eyes are on the wedding venue of Anglesey couple Gareth and Amie. Medieval St Cwyfan's Church-in-the-Sea on the tiny tidal island of Cribinau, is closed all winter but opens up for business each summer. As The Reverend Canon Madalaine Brady who will marry them knows all too well, timing is essential. The church can only be reached at low tide and there's a real risk that the wedding party, who've been warned to bring their wellies, will have to wade back to shore.

On another island, three hundred miles to the south, the iconic Barry Island fairground is opening its gates for the summer season. Manager Vernon Studt is hoping for big crowds, but will the weather play ball?

Summer is the busiest season for hoteliers, but the owners of west Wales luxury retreat Hammet House face the extra challenge of a half-finished renovation. With no previous experience of the hotel industry, how will Philippa and Owen Gale cope with this ambitious project?

And at 5am on a Sunday morning, while the capital sleeps, the Cleaner Cardiff cleansing team has a tight five-hour window to transform the city centre's litter-strewn streets ready for business.

A SUMMER IN WALES Friday, September 14, BBC One Wales, 7.30pm

During one of the wettest summers since records began, A Summer in Wales cameras focus on Prichard Street in south Wales’ Ely Valley, as the residents prepare to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. This community has marked every big occasion since the 1940s, from VE Day to Royal Weddings, with a street party. But while they pull out all the stops, will their big day be a big washout?

In west Wales, luxury hoteliers Owen and Philippa Gale are preparing to host a wedding reception for local couple Dan and Michelle. It’s crucial for the future of their business that the event goes well. But will the wedding guests approve of their uncompromisingly modern renovation of the hotel’s interior and, more importantly, will chef Ben’s catering be to everyone’s taste?

In Barry, on the south Wales coast, Gavin and Stacey tour guide Linda takes a coach-load of keen TV Tourists on a whistle-stop tour of some of the most popular television filming locations in the UK.

Whilst in north Wales, wild swimmers Andrew Smith and John Piggott head for the foothills of Snowdonia in search of a new bathing spot - far from lifeguards and swimming pool rules.

2 IS WALES WORKING? Sunday, March 9, BBC Ones Wales,10.25pm

Stephen Evans is the BBC’s Berlin correspondent and was previously the BBC’s North America business correspondent - so he’s covered two of the world’s most successful economies. Now, he comes home to Wales for a BBC Cymru Wales documentary programme, and asks why is it that the economy is in decline and job prospects poor for many young people?

With interviews with some of Wales’ biggest names in business, Sir Terry Matthews; Henry Engelhardt who chose Cardiff for the headquarters of his global insurance business, Admiral Group; David Lea-Wilson and his wife Alison who founded Halen Môn and Brian Morgan, of Penderyn Distillery, Steve ponders if the Welsh think big enough in business.

He also revisits his old school, Brynteg Comprehensive in Bridgend, to speak to pupils there about their hopes for the future and speaks to another ex-pupil of the same school, First Minister Carwyn James.

4 RHOD GILBERT’S WORK EXPERIENCE: TEACHER Tuesday, September 11, BBC One Wales, 10.35pm

There’s another opportunity to see comedian Rhod Gilbert tackle some of the toughest jobs around, with the repeat of his hit series first shown in May, Rhod Gilbert’s Work Experience.

Rhod breaches the school dress code when he turns up for his first day as a teacher at Monnow Primary School in Bettws, Newport, to find himself in a whole new world, an “educational Milton Keynes!”, where maths lessons are held in a forest, and learning literacy involves addressing sounds to the tables and the windows.

Despite struggling with this concept at first, Rhod is soon overwhelmed by the inspirational attitude of the teachers, and describing the school as “one hell of a place”. But will he ever completely come to terms with living on Planet Thunk?

5 MEET THE WATKINS Tuesday, September 11, BBC Two Wales, 7.30pm

It’s early summer and usually the busiest time of the year for the Watkins family business. This week it’s shearing time with the sheep getting their annual haircut, and one thousand day-old turkey chicks arrive to be raised on the farm, ready for sale at Christmas.

After months of preparation and hard work, Roland takes his beloved Texel sheep to one of Europe’s largest agricultural shows, the Royal Welsh in Builth Wells. Ensuring the sheep look at their very best, Roland hopes to win an elusive first prize. After ten years of showing, will his best ram catch the judge’s eye and make it a day to remember for the Watkins family?

6 POBOL Y CWM Llun-Gwener, Medi 10-14, BBC Cymru ar S4C, 8pm Monday-Friday, September 10-14, BBC Wales on S4C, 8pm bbc.co.uk/pobolycwm

Mae difrifoldeb sefyllfa Gwyneth yn dechrau gwawrio arni wrth iddi sylweddoli efallai na welith hi ei mab fyth eto. Ceisia Yvonne ei chysuro ond mae Gwyneth ar chwâl ac nid yw’n meddwl yn glir. Yr unig beth y gall Gwyneth ei weld yw taw Yvonne yw gwraidd ei holl ddioddef gyda’r Monks. Yn ei llygaid hi, petai Yvonne heb ymyrryd ym mywyd Garry, ni fyddai Gwyneth wedi dechrau’r tân a byddai Gwern dal gyda hi yn ddiogel.

Sylweddola Anita pa mor wael yw cyfrifon y Dorlan ac aiff ati i geisio gwella’r sefyllfa. Wrth gyrraedd pen ei thennyn, mae’n ymddiried yn Meic ei bod wedi buddsoddi ei harian ei hun i gadw’r busnes i fynd. Gwêl y cyfle i achub y Dorlan fel her bersonol iddi ac yn ffocws newydd i gymryd ei meddyliau oddi ar Moc.

Daw Angela i ddysgu am gyfrinach Ed a Iolo ac mae’n gandryll o feddwl ei fod yn mynd i gamblo y tu ôl i’w chefn. Mynna ei fod yn rhoi stop ar y pŵl ar unwaith ac er ei fod yn ufuddhau, mae’n awgrymu fod Angela yn ceisio rheoli ei fywyd. Daw’r sylweddoliad yma fel tipyn o sioc iddi a gwna’r ddau ymdrech i gyd-dynnu’n well.

 The urgency of Gwyneth’s situation is beginning to dawn on her as she realises that she may never see her son again. Yvonne tries to comfort her but Gwyneth is all over the shop and cannot think straight. The only thing she’s clear about is that she sees Yvonne as the root of all her problems with the Monks. As far as Gwyneth is concerned, had Yvonne not delved into Garry’s background, she would never have felt desperate enough to start the fire that killed Brandon and Gwern would still be safe with her.

Anita realises how desperate the Dorlan’s accounts are and tries to turn things around on her own. Reaching the end of her tether, she confides in Meic that she’s invested some of her own money to keep the business afloat. She sees this as a challenge and a new focus to keep her mind off Moc.

Angela finds out about Ed and Iolo’s secret outings and she’s livid to find out that he’s been gambling. She insists that he stops immediately and although he agrees, he suggests that Angela is beginning to turn into a control freak. This realisation comes as a surprise to her and both make more of an effort to get on better.
