Australia Day Tasting 2018
Wine Australia for Australian Wine Australia Day Tasting 2018 23 January • London #ADTwine Welcome to Australia Day Tasting 2018 Welcome to our Australia Day Tasting. We are delighted to return to B1, Victoria House again, to host what has become one of the largest tastings in the UK calendar, and it keeps on growing, with more wines, exhibitors and winemakers. The landscape of Australian wine has never looked more exciting, with over 60 regions producing innovative, compelling and diverse wines. With a geographical size similar to Europe, and with equally distinct climates, soils and terroirs, it is no surprize that Australia produces a wide array of styles, flavours and grape varieties. Today we have over 1000 wines available to taste, from 41 different regions across Australia. We hope you enjoy making new discoveries as well as trying the latest vintages of old favourites. It is encouraging to see the interest in premium Australia from across the market as the UK as a total retains its number one position in terms of volume of imports from Australia. Australia continues to be the most popular country of origin in the off-trade, with 23% market share. The market growth at price points over £6.00 per bottle is reflected by the value of bottle imports overtaking that of bulk for the first time since 2012. The 2017 vintage in Australia was up by 5% on the previous year, producing 1.93M tonnes and increasing the purchase price of grapes by 7%, reflecting the increased demand from the world markets. China is now the largest destination by value, with over 30% of exports, followed by the USA with 19% and the UK with 14%.
