Social Connectedness. Radio was the first social medium, back then it was called talkback. Radio has a natural advantage in the social media age if it is confident enough to use social media to its advantage. Radio producers and presenters already know how to generate and moderate talkback, they just need to apply these skills to the new social media, not just to read out messages, but to actively engage with the communities they build around their radio shows. A big social media fan base can bring large audiences and instant feedback to radio, but social media is a double- edged sword, everything is public, so it can also be damaging if used unwisely.

62 Documentary of Radio Days 2015 Aynur Sadet

Documentary film of the “Radio Days” activity held between May 2-6 2015 has been completed. Serda Sayar directed, Tevfik Öber used the camera, Canan Dila wrote the script and Berrak Ataşen presented.

The gigantic tent set up over 750 m2 space at Beşiktaş Pier was filmed from the minaret of the mosque at the square, which also offers the best view of the pier and the Bosphorus. Preparation of the event space was shrunk down to 7 minutes with time-lapse photography that took 6 exhausting hours of work on top of the minaret.

Filming began before the event and continued throughout the activity. Gala night, concerts, activities in the daytime and at nighttime were filmed by almost all members of İstanbul Television camera crew with meticulous and self-sacrificing effort.

“Radio Days” event was enlivened by the high attendance of the audience. One of them -a 90 year- old woman listener said to the microphone “I have no one left in my life, I don’t even have a cat but I have my radio.” She lost 80% of her sight and came from Bakırköy to Beşiktaş for “Radio Days”… It’s clear that she was captivated by the magic of voice…

A Radio Program of Superlatives- first of its kind in the world Erhan Konuk

TRT Directorate General has launched a project on the 88th anniversary of radio broadcasting in our country. A Radio Program of Superlatives (RPS) launched under the guidance of TRT Director General Şenol Göka and Head of TRT Radio Department Amber Türkmen is simultaneously broadcast live from three different cities. RPS is on air on TRT FM every Thursday from 19.00 to 21.00 hrs. and meets listeners with three radio broadcasters and a moderator.

Erhan Konuk (İzmir), Bay J and Erkan Yavaş (Moderator/İstanbul) and Muzo (Ankara) are hundreds of kilometers far away from one another but it is as if they broadcast from the same TRT FM studio. Besides these three cities, producers broadcast twice from Mersin-Diyarbakır-Erzurum and Trabzon- Antalya-İstanbul (TRT Regional Radio Stations) in May 2015.

RPS is a challenging radio program with its interactive structure based on a conversation between three radio broadcasters and a moderator on a topic and choice of songs. The program that includes difficulties in the technical sense was broadcast from (Azerbaijan), Berlin (Germany) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (Sarajevo) as 3B for short on March 19, 2015. RPS that extended to three countries from three cities shortly was on air from three different continents on June 25, 2015. Broadcasts from Asia (Bangladesh-Dhaka), Australia (Melbourne) and the U.S. (New York) were extremely successful.

RPS is planned to be broadcast from three oceans (Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Oceans) in October 2015. An official application has been filed for the program to be included in Guinness World Records. A Radio Program of Superlatives will soon surprise listeners with initiatives from different geographical areas that will attract world media attention.
