The project activitiesrelated to field-testing the clearinghouse-services, analyzing the fieldtest results, and developing mailing lists of potentialusers. Additional information on activities related tofield-testing the clearinghouse in the second and third is presented updates along withinformation on developing an information package fordissemination and developing base for clearinghouse a membership utilization. The fourth activities related update evaluates later to field-testing clearinghouseservices test, revising the clearinghoUsemodel based on evaluations test sites, and developing from the field an information packageand membership base. This project searched out qualitytraining materials from all states and Canadian provinces. During thissearch process, an assessment of apprenticeship curriculum needswas made and curriculum gaps defined. A directory was produced and distributedto all 10 USDL BAT Regional and 50 State Offices and to several states' vocationalcurriculum centers. Continual progress reports were printed in the monthlynational newsletter, USAA (United States Apprenticeship Association)Sentinel, which has membership in every state and U.S. territory. Acomputerized data base system was developed allowing additions and revisionsas various sources become available for inclusion. INTRODUCTION THIS REPORT SUMMARIZESTHE ACTIVITIES FOR PHASE II OF THE PROJECT TOTHE PRESENT TIME. WHEREAS THE INITIAL PHASEOF THE THREE-YEARPROGRAMINCLUDEDTHEDEVELOPMENTOF THE MODEL, COLLECTION, OF RELEVANTAPPRENTICESHIP-RELATED CURRICULUMMATERIALS, ANDSITETESTING OF THE DIRECTORY, THESECOND PHASE MAINLY CONCERNS ITSELF WITHFIELD AND SITE IMPLEMENTATION. THE FIELD TESTING AND EVALUATION OF THE DIRECTORY WERECOMPLETED IN LATE OCTOBER AND THE RESULTS WERE REPORTED IN THE NOVEMBER 24, 1987UPDATE. SINCETHE LAST REPORT, HARDWARE NEEDS FOR THEPROJECT HAVE BEENMET THROUGHTHEACQUISITIONOF AN AST PREMIUM 286 COMPUTER, AN OKIDATA LASER PRINTER, ANDA LEADING EDGE MON/TOR. THISHARDWARE WILL ADEQUATELYMANAGE THE BRS SOFTWARE IN TERMS OF FUTURENEEDS FOR THE PROJECT. THE CURRICULUM MATERIALS FORTHE PROJECT WILL BE AVAILABLE ON THE NATIONWIDE ACCESS NETWORK. THE THIRD PARTYEVALUATOR'S ROLEDURING PHASE II IS TO ASSISTTHE PROJECT DIRECTOR IN ASSESSINGTHE PRACTICAL PROBLEMSASSOCIATEDWITHIMPLEMENTING THE MATERIALS USAGE IN THEFIELD. THE PRESENT REPORTEXTENDS THE RESULTS OF PHASE I AND REFLECTS UPON BENCHMARK QUESTIONSWHICH CONSTITUTE NECESSARY STEPS FORTHE FIELD EVALUATION. ATTACHED AS APPENDIX ITEMS IN THIS REPORTARETASK INVENTORYCHECKLISTS FOR MACHINE REPAIRERAND PATTERNMAKER, ALONGWITH RECOMMENDED CURRICULUMMODULES FOR PAINTERS. CONTRACTORS REPRESENTINGTHE GLIDDON PAINT COMPANY ARE THE RESPONDENTS FORTHEPAINTER TASK INVENTORY; TASK ANALYSES FORPATTERNMAKERANDMACHINE REPA/RER ARE BEING COMPLETED BY SAMPLES OF RESPONDERSIN WISCONSIN. THESE MATERIALS HAVE NOT BEEN SUBMITTED IN PREVIOUSEVALUATION REPORTS. PHASE II OBJECTIVES PHASE II IS THE FIELD TESTING.SEQUENCEFOR THE PROJECT AND INCLUDES THE EVALUATION OF ALL PRODUCTS AND PROCESSESFOR ACCESSING THE CURRICULUMMATERIALSWHICHWERE DEVELOPED DUR/NG PHASE I. THE FOLLOWING OBJECTIVES AS ARE SUBSUMED IN PHASE II ACTIVITIES. EVALUATION PROGRESSREMARKS ARE SHOWN BELOW EACH OF THREE SELECTED PHASE IIMAJOR OBJECTIVE STATEMENTS. OBJECTIVE 4.3CONDUCT OIELD TESTON CLEARINGHOUSE SERVICES A TOTALOF EIGHT (8) TEST.SITES HAVEBEEN SELECTED FOR THE FIELDEVALUATIONS. THESE INCLUDE LOCATIONS NORTH IN TENNESSEE, DAKOTA, WISCONsIN, NEVADA, HAWAII,BRITISH COLUMBIA, 'FLORIDA, AND OREGON. EACH OF THESE STATIONS HAS SEEN CONTACTED WITH REGARD TO THEIR PARTICIPATIONIN THE PROJECT AND HAVE AGREED TO COOPERATE WITH THE PROJECTDIRECTOR IN THE FIELD TESTING. EVALUATION RESULTSWILL BE COLLECTED FROM EACH OF THE PARTICIPATINGAGENCIES DURING A LATER DATE AS SPECIFIED IN THE PHASE IITIMETABLE. OBJECTIVE 4.4ANALYZE RESULTS FROMFIELD TEST. THIS OBJECTIVE CANNOT BE COMPLETED UNTIL THE FIELD TEST RESULTS ARERETURNED TO THE PROJECT DIRECTOR. DATA ARE AFTER THESE ANALYZEDAND SUMMARIZED, RECOMMENDATIONSWILL BE MADE FOR REVISING AMDREFINING THE MODEL. OBJECTIVE 5.1DEVELOP MAILING LISTSOF POTENTIAL USERS. CONTACTING POTENTIAL USERS OF CLEARINGHOUSESERVICES IS AN ONGOINGACTIVITY OFTHE PROJECT STAFF. PROJECT HAVEBEEN PERSONNEL VERY EFFECTIVE IN REACHINGINTERESTED PARTIES AT CONFERENCES AND PROFESSIONALMEETINGS, AS WELL AS THROUGH PERSONAL CONTACTS AND CORRESPONDENCES. THIS CONTINUES IN THE FORM OF ADVERTISING IN THE DECEMBER 7, 1987 THE ISSUE OF USAA SENTINAL, THE ITC UPDATE, ANDNUMEROUS WORKSHOP MEETINGS. THE PROJECTDIRECTOR IS SCHEDULEDWITH THE BRICKLAYERWORKSHOP PEOPLE IN TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA DURING THE WEEKOF JANUARY18-22, 1988, ANDWITH APPRENTICESHIP FIELD REPRESENTATIVES FROMOREGON ON FEBRUARY 25, 1988. THE STAFF WILL CONFER WITH BUDDY KALARES, FIPSE, NATIONAL DIRECTOR ON FEBRUARY 16TH. THEAMERICANASSOCIATION OF COMMUNITYAND JUNIORCOLLEGES (AAFCC) HAS AGREEDTO WORK CLOSELY WITH THE PROJECT ASA PRINCIPAL USER GROUP.
