Glen Willow the Home of the Charity Shield MEDIA RELEASE THURSDAY 16 MAY 2019 – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE GLEN WILLOW THE HOME OF THE CHARITY SHIELD Glen Willow Stadium will be the official home of the Charity Shield in 2020 and 2021 after Mid- Western Regional Council today announced another two-year partnership with the South Sydney Rabbitohs and St George Illawarra Dragons. The renewed partnership comes after hugely successful Charity Shield games at the Mudgee stadium in 2018 and 2019 that broke attendance records of more than 9,100. Dates of the 37th and 38th annual Charity Shield will be announced later this year. Mayor of the Mid-Western Region, Des Kennedy said he is delighted to welcome back the Rabbitohs and Dragons who have been strong advocates for rugby league in regional NSW. “This is a major win for our region and proves Glen Willow is the best regional stadium in NSW if not the country, with the ability to successfully host televised NRL games,” Cr Kennedy said. “We offer fans an up close and personal game day experience, where they can see and hear every knock on and tackle just metres away. “The Rabbitohs and Dragons share a rich history and rivalry and I am excited our region will play a role in this prestigious Rugby League tradition.” Rabbitohs CEO, Blake Solly, said the club is very excited to be extending the partnership with Mid-Western Regional Council and the St George Illawarra Dragons which will see the Charity Shield played in Mudgee for the next two years. “Both Clubs have worked hard to build a connection with the people of Mudgee and more broadly the Central West of NSW, and the events we’ve been able to deliver over the past two years at Glen Willow Stadium have been first class,” Mr Solly said. “The town has really embraced both teams, the Mid-Western Regional Council and Mayor Des Kennedy have been fantastic to work alongside to deliver these events, and we’re all looking forward to getting back out to Mudgee in the 2020 pre-season for the 37th Charity Shield.” St George Illawarra Chief Executive, Brian Johnston said he was pleased the Dragons could continue making positive strides on and off the field in the Central West of New South Wales. "We are delighted to have been able to reach an agreement with Mid-Western Regional Council and South Sydney to see the Charity Shield remain in Mudgee for a further two seasons,” Mr Johnston said. "It is a fantastic opportunity to showcase NRL in the Central West and engage with the local community. "I would like to thank Des Kennedy and his team for the opportunity to continue our association, both teams enjoy great support throughout the region and we look forward to returning next year." Ticketing details for the 2020 Charity Shield will be announced later this year. ENDS PAGE 2 OF 2 .

Sir Peter Leitch Club AT MT SMART STADIUM, HOME OF THE MIGHTY VODAFONE WARRIORS 15th February 2017 Newsletter #157 Only Warriors Fans Could Panic Before the Season Starts By David Kemeys Former Sunday Star-Times Editor, Former Editor-in-Chief Suburban Newspapers, Long Suffering Warriors Fan KAY, WE were grim at the Nines, and we lost our first trial against Melbourne 30-18, after leading 18-0 Oat one point. But bloody hell, it was trial. It doesn’t matter. Only Vodafone Warriors fans – and I use the word cautiously – would take to the air and start banging on about how it is all doom and gloom, and an indicator of how poor we will be, that nothing has changed, that new coach Stephen Kearney has no idea what he is doing, and on, and on, and on. Unbelievable. We were without Ben Matulino, Jacob Lillyman, Simon Mannering, Bodene Thompson, Manu Vatuvei, Issac Luke and Sam Lisone, and the Storm didn’t bother with Cameron Smith, Cooper Cronk, Jesse Bromwich, Will Chambers or Tohu Harris. So neither side was busting a gut to put out a best 13. Mind you, conceding 30 unanswered points is not great, but it’s not a pointer to our 2017 campaign. It’s just a trial, a hit-out, a chance to try things, to get some conditioning... From what I hear, and I hear it mainly from Pete, who was on the Sunshine Coast, we were pretty good in the first half. New captain Roger Tuivasa-Sheck got back to work, and emerged unscathed, and the while the second half was entirely different, both sides fielded fringe players and youngsters.

  • 2021 Charity Shield Date Announced
MEDIA RELEASE EMBARGOED – MIDNIGHT THURSDAY 19 NOVEMBER 2020 2021 CHARITY SHIELD DATE ANNOUNCED The St George Illawarra Dragons and South Sydney Rabbitohs will make their much anticipated return to Mudgee for the Charity Shield on Saturday, 27 February. This will be the fourth year Mudgee’s Glen Willow Stadium has proudly played host to the annual pre-season game as part of a four year partnership between Mid-Western Regional Council, the Dragons and Rabbitohs. Tickets for the 2021 Charity Shield will go on sale next month and fans are encouraged to get in quickly as numbers will be limited due to physical distancing measures set for major events. Mayor of the Mid-Western Region, Des Kennedy said the well-attended game is always highly anticipated locally and regionally, and he was excited to welcome the clubs back for a fourth year. “The Charity Shield is an opportunity for fans to experience the atmosphere of an NRL game and see their heroes in the flesh, all against the backdrop of our premier stadium,” Councillor Kennedy said. “This partnership has been a huge success for our region, from a social and recreational standpoint as well as economically, and I’d like to thank the clubs for their ongoing commitment to bringing the game to Mudgee.” Dragons CEO, Ryan Webb said: “The Charity Shield has been the crown jewel of the rugby league pre-season schedule for 38 years, and we are delighted to have Mudgee play host yet again. “The Central West of New South Wales has long been a stronghold of support for St George Illawarra.
