Maxi Priest (bürgerlich Max Alfred Elliott) ist einer der bekanntesten Reggaesänger und -songwriter die England je hervorgebracht hat. Seinem Debütalbum von 1985 folgten erste kleinere, respektable Hits - u.a. die Coverversionen von 'Some Guys Have All The Luck' (Robert Palmer) und 'Wild World' (Cat Stevens) - und Mitte 1990 hatte er mit dem Longplayer 'Bonafide' und der Single 'Close To You' (erreichte Platz 1 in den USA sowie die Top Ten in UK und Deutschland) seinen größten Erfolg.
