NAOSHIMA Written by Martin Provost and Séverine Werba A film by Martin Provost 7 avenue Franklin D. Roosevelt 75008 Paris +33 1 55 34 98 08 - [email protected] SAS au capital de 45 000 € - RCS 813 251 535 - APE 5911 C - TVA FR44 813 251 535 Two French women, Irène, a renowned sexologist, and Joséphine, her interpreter, meet by chance in Japan, go in search of a lost and future love, and discover, beyond temporality, the mysterious and marvelous ties that unite all human beings. 2 CASTING CATHERINE DENEUVE as IRÈNE 3 SANDRINE KIBERLAIN as JOSÉPHINE 4 NOTE OF INTENT I went to Japan for the first time 4 years ago with my film “Violette”. I took advantage of the trip to take a break there for 3 weeks. I, of course, went to visit Kyoto and its temples, the Emperor’s marvelous gardens, but I also endeavored to get off the beaten track by going to visit Ozu’s grave in Kamakura, by walking through the wild forests, by spending the night in a traditional Osen usually reserved for the Japanese and by trying to immerse myself in the simplest fashion in this culture that seemed so foreign to me. And then I went to Naoshima. It was a very powerful experience. On this industrial island, one man, Soichiro Fukutake, had had the brilliant idea of asking Tadao Ando to design a modern and contemporary art center in the midst of nature. I live in France very close to Giverny where Monet painted his famous Waterlilies. His landscapes are familiar to me because, like him before, I live just on the banks of the Seine, very close to the church of Vétheuil, where he had his first house, in the hills of Chantemesle which he painted so often.

  • 150Th Wine Sale of the Hospices De Beaune
150TH WINE SALE OF THE HOSPICES DE BEAUNE 21 NOVEMBER 2010 - The Hospices de Beaune and Christie’s are celebrating the 150th Wine Sale in China. - A new Cuvée : Santenay «Cuvée Christine Friedberg» - A famous Cuvée changes its name in honor of the King Louis XIV : « Cuvée du Roi Soleil » FROM BEAUNE TO BEIJIN China at the heart of the 150th Hospices de Beaune Wine Auction Two parts of the world each with a great history meet again: China and France, and in particular the renowned wine region Burgundy. This time, our two cultures are to meet thanks to a heritage which is becoming more and more universal: wine. At the heart of Burgundy, Beaune is the Capital City of wine, and the Hospices de Beaune Domaine stands as its incomparable and irreplaceable emblem. Since the 15th Century, Beaune and Hospices wines have been conveying the very special taste of our land. For the last 150 years, these wines have been reaching the rest of the world thanks to a charity auction. At the same time, we have been fortunate enough to have the chance to sample numerous varieties of the finest Chinese teas - something that our friends in China have for centuries been enjoying. We therefore know that you are sensitive to subtle nuances, and will appreciate the various expressions of our 'Climats', our vineyard plots. I look forward to seeing our worlds coming together more often, where we can rely on our common language, the language of wine. • BILAN 2010 English
FRENCH FILMS ABROAD RESULTS FOR 2010 KEY FIGURES • 57.2 MILLION ADMISSIONS to French films in foreign territories in 2010. A rise of 11% in admissions to French-language films over 2009, but an overall decline of 17.9%. • 330 MILLION EUROS: estimated box office receipts, down by 6.1%. • 55.2% attributed to French-language films: the first time in 10 years that French-language productions account for over half of all admissions. • +11%: the rise in admissions to French-language films in 2010 compared to 2009. • 84.8%: French majority films’ share of results, reflecting a sharp rise in the past three years. MAJOR UPWARD TRENDS: • +142%: rise in admissions to French films in Italy. • +36%: rise in admissions to French-language films in the USA. • +25%: rise in admissions to French films in Japan. • +41%: rise in admissions to French films in Russia. MAJOR DOWNWARD TRENDS: • -30%: fall in admissions to French films in Germany. • -43%: fall in admissions to French films in China. OVERALL RESULTS With an estimated 57.2 million admissions registered in 2010, French films’ performance abroad shows a decline of 17.9% over 2009. Admissions (million) This downturn can be chiefly explained by the absence of blockbuster hits in 2010 (in the likes of Taken in 2009). The three top-performing films, The Ghost Writer, From Paris with Love, and Oceans, each attracted around 6.5 million spectators. By contrast, the top film of 2009 registered 23 million admissions, while in 2008, the top three films each drew 10 million admissions. The absence of a film of the caliber of Taken (which accounted for one third of all admissions in 2009) thus offered no compensation for the remaining films’ results.
