Vin de Pays du Val de Loire Chardonnay Blanc IGP Val de Loire, Vallée de la Loire et Centre, France The singular expression of traditional grape varieties influenced by the terroir and climate of the Loire Valley. Fresh and crisp wines, round and supple, with intense and greedy aromas. THE WINE Smoothness, exotic fruits and fine toasted notes. Chardonnay flourishes superbly on the different terroirs of the Loire Valley. The wines reveal an elegant structure, full of finesse, with a fleshy mouth and perfectly balanced by a gentle freshness. TERROIR Selection of plots with ripe fruit aromatic potential. VINIFICATION Direct pressing. Light settling, at low temperature, to preserve the aromatic potential of the grapes. Fermentation at 18-20°C. Use of fresh wood during fermentation, bringing roundness and complexity. AGEING Aged on fine lees with high turbidity and regular resuspension to develop the fatness until preparation for bottling. VARIETALS Chardonnay 100% SERVING Serve chilled between 10 and 12°C. TASTING NOTES Sparkling light gold colour. Elegant, refined and slightly toasted, this pretty Chardonnay reveals its intense aromas of citrus fruits, pear, ripe pineapple and white flowers. The palate is round, harmonious and full of freshness. With a very good balance, it finishes on grapefruit notes. Sauvignon Blanc grape is a very old grape variety from southwestern France. It is still grown in Bordeaux, where it became one of the parent grapes to Cabernet Sauvignon and helps make Sauternes, and in the Loire Valley, where it makes grassy, mineral-driven wines of Sancerre and Pouilly-Fume. But it is in New Zealand where it produces the global standard for the grape with its generous personality, vibrant tropical fruit, and breezy freshness. It was first brought to New Zealand in the early 1900s, but started to gain traction in the 1970s when people like Refreshing Whites George Fistonich of Villa Maria started championing the grape and exporting wine to Australia and the UK. In the June 2021 2000s, brands like Kim Crawford and Matua put Marlborough SB on the map, while new boutique players emerged as leaders in quality and sustainability. Today, there are about 350 wineries in Marlborough (about the same as Napa Valley), producing two-thirds of NZ wines. Wine exports have doubled since 2012 and gone up 6x since 2000.
