En esta monografía comenzaremos mencionando el aparato genital de la búfala es de menor tamaño que una bovina. El ciclo estral es (±16 a 26 días). La especie es estacional dependiendo acción de la melanotonina que regula la actividad ovárica y en machos disminuye la libido. Dinámica folicular similar a la especie bovina, con 2 a 3 ondas foliculares y 46.3 folículos de 1mm de tamaño. Periodo de gestación (300 días), intervalo parto (±441.80 días), edad al primer parto (± 1132.69 días), periodo lactación (240 a 270 días), periodo seco (± 195.78 días), periodo servicio 3 meses posparto, vida útil 18 años, sementales 7 años, peso al nacer 34-38 kg. La morfología del tracto reproductivo del macho es de menor tamaño en comparación al bovino, pubertad 6-8 meses, madurez sexual 11 meses. El búfalo se adapta fácil a vagina artificial no lubricada, temperatura 44-45°C, volumen de semen 3ml, concentración (6x106 al 12x106 espermatozoides/ml),pH (6.7 a 7.5). RESUMEN El estado nutricional ejerce un poder supremo sobre todos los procesos de la vida del ser humano, pero, ¿qué evidencia clínica actual tenemos del la implicación de las vitaminas, en el proceso de curación de las heridas?, ¿Se pueden usar como instrumentos naturales en la prevención y tratamiento de las heridas? Tras realizar numerosas búsquedas bibliográficas en las principales bases biomédicas, se ha obtenido como resultado pocos estudios dedicados a investigar en esta materia, con diseño metodológico precario y hallazgos controvertidos. Las vitaminas más estudiadas han sido la A, C, E y D, las menos estudiadas el complejo B y la K. Se investiga por igual en suplementación mixta como en el aporte exclusivo de una vitamina. En las heridas, el patrón mas trabajado ha sido las heridas crónicas y en concreto las UPP, además, los trabajos de investigación los orientan principalmente a intervenciones en prevención secundaria, dejando grietas en la investigación con heridas de otra etiología e intervenciones en prevención primaria. Actualmente, con los datos que disponemos, se puede afirmar con cierta seguridad que las vitaminas son instrumentos terapéuticos baratos y eficaces en la prevención y tratamiento de la herida, aunque se precisa más estudios y con mejor calidad metodológica que lo respalde.
