Roxy’s movements in 2011 09 January 2011: Wintering same area Roxy has remained in the same area on coast, within an area of 0.36 square km. 19 January 2011: No change Still in same area, living in range of 0.36 square km to 19th January. 22 January 2011: No change Same area within a range of 0.38 square km. 28 January 2011 No change in behaviour. 06 February 2011: No change Roxy is still using the same area of rabbit warrens, in last 10 days within a range of 0.86 square km. 14 February 2011: No change Roxy remains in the same area although in last ten days has extended his range a bit to 1 square km. 18 February 2011: No Change No change in routine. 02 March 2011: No change Roxy remained in same area with a recent range of 0.74 square km. February 20th - 28th 08 March 2011 No change. 17 March 2011 Roxy continues to live on the coast, within an area of 0.6 square km from the 13th to 17th March. Roxy's location on the Whithorn coast 23 March 2011: Still there Roxy remains in exactly the same coastal area. Between 15th and 23rd March his ranging covered 0.8 km². Range March 18th - 23rd 03 April 2011: No change Roxy remains living on the coast in an area of 0.78 square km. It's amazing he has stayed so long in such a small area on the coast, while the other young are moving about in the north of Scotland. Rabbits must be easy prey. 10 April 2011: Moving a little more Roxy has moved a little more in the last 10 days but still with in a range of 1.3 square km. 18 April 2011: No change Roxy is still living in the same area and at present showing no signs of going exploring. 26 April 2011: Still living on the coast Roxy is still living on the coast at the usual site. Thanks to Brian Walker who sent me some photos of Roxy's habitat. He was walking the coastal path when he saw Roxy flying over the rabbit warrens and gorse. It was late morning on 16th April. Roxy's habitat Roxy's view to the Mull of Galloway 27 April 2011: Sets off in afternoon Roxy was still in the usual place at 4pm last evening but soon after set-off North along the coast and at 5pm was flying at 39km/hr at 885 m altitude between Elrig and Alticry. He flew east of Loch Ryan and at 6pm was flying north at 61 kms/hr south of Beneraird. He continued north and at 7pm was northeast of Colmonell flying north at 36 km/hr; he then roosted a little to the south in a small wood in open wet meadows 3 km northwest of Balkissock. He had flown 63 km. Flight on 26th April 29 April 2011: On to the east Roxy was flying around the general roost area from before 6am and was still there at 10am on 27th April; an hour later he was flying north at 49 km/hr at 527m just inland of Lendalfoot in Ayrshire. At midday he was flying east at 69 km/hr at 1,140 m altitude over Dalquhairn. He flew east over Loch Doon and the A713 road and at 1pm was just north of Cairnsmore of Carsphairn. He continued east and was over Durisdeer at 3pm flying southeast at 55 km/hr at 1,163m heading for Earncraig Hill, north of Queensberry, and west of the M74 motorway. He was roosted there that night and stayed in the same hills on 28th and 29th. Flight on 27th April - 97 km 02 May 2011: Heads east of M74 At 11am on 1st May, Roxy was heading east for Beattock Summit and crossed the A74M and at midday he was at Fruid reservoir and two hours later was closer to Talla Linfoot. He then flew down to Molls Cleuch Dod and remained in that area overnight and into 2nd May. In the evening of 2nd he flew a little southwest and was west of White Coomb at 8pm. Travels on 1st and 2nd May At Molls Cleuch Dod 05 May 2011: Out to East Lothian then south towards English border Roxy moved east on 3rd of May at 1pm was at Glentress, near Peebles, and an hour later just east of Humbie in the East Lothian, flying east at 51 km/hr at an altitude of 1,442 metres. At 4pm, he was just northeast of Whiteadder reservoir where he stopped overnight. At 10am on the 4th, he flew north over East Lothian and then South West to Oxton in the Borders. He was at Windestraw Law at 1pm, near Selkirk at 2pm and at Ettrick Pen at 3pm. He was there until midday on the 5th when he flew south to the hills west of the Hermitage, Newcastleton. May 3rd to 5th 09 May 2011: No change Roxy remained in the same general area and ranged between Roan Fell and Pike Fell, northeast of Langholm in the Borders. 12 May 2011: Great photographs of Roxy Received email from Chris Baines with some outstanding photos he took of Roxy when he was in his winter quarters in March and April. Here are three of them, which particularly appealed to me. Thanks very much, Chris, for allowing me to put them on Roxy's webpage. 13 May 2011: Flew north Roxy spent several days in the valley just to the east of Pike Fell, and then at midday on 11th May flew north to Skelfhill Pen and then NW to cross the A7 road near Teviothead. He settled in the forests just east of Craikhope Outdoor Centre and spent most the next day there before heading southwest to roost in the forests four km away. May 9th to 13th Locations 11th to 13th May 29 May 2011 Roxy remained in the same until 27th May when he flew northwest over Glenbreck. He then settled in the hills there until midday on 29th when he was north of Gathersnow hill. May 24th to 27th May 27th to 29th 04 June 2011: To Dun Rig, south of Peebles Roxy was along the ridges to Culter Fell on 28th and 29th and at 4pm on 30th May flew briefly to the west side of the A702 road. He then flew east to Cademuir Hill and Dun Rig, where he lingered, before flying south towards Cappercleuch on 4th June. 14 June 2011: No change Roxy has remained in the hills to the north of Cappercleuch Reservoir and lived in a relatively small area of hillground. 23 June 2011: No change Still in the same area of hills, living in range of 4.85 square km. 09 July 2011: Moving again Roxy left his recent location on 3rd July after midday crossed the M74 and then spent 3rd and 4th July to the northwest of Kinnelhead. He then moved north and from 4th to 9th was living in hills to the north of Green Lowther. He then flew SE over Moffat at 3pm on 9th July and at 4pm was on a hill NE of Scaw'd Fell. June 28th to July 8th 21 July 2011: Ranging in the Borders Roxy has remained in the same general area, crossing the M74. From 14th to 20th July he was near Ballencleuch Law, northeast of Thornhill. Locations 14th to 20th July 24 July 2011: No change Roxy living in an area of 15 square km, as far north as Green Lowther on 19th and from 23rd to 24th moved 3km east of Well Hill. 02 August 2011: Moved north again On 26th July. Roxy flew back over the M74 and settled just west of Hartfell, but the next day at midday he flew north to the hills just northwest of Stanhope and the A701, where he was still present at 9pm today. 07 August 2011: Flew east He flew east to Dunrig at 4pm on 5th August and then ranged north to Cademuir to the 7th August, south of Peebles. 09 August 2011: South to Douglas Water Roxy flew south on 8th and is now in forests along the Douglas Water to the west of Muttonhall. 22 August 2011 East towards Selkirk Roxy flew northeast at 11am on 20th past Dun Rig and by 2pm was well north of Innerleithen to the west of Peatrig Hill. He then headed southeast and passed over Walkerburn and finally settled in a glen northwest of Broadmeadow, Selkirk. August 16th to 21st 29 August 2011: More travelling After being north of Broad Law, Roxy went west midday on 25th to Gathersnow Hill and then at 1pm next day set off south over Glenbreck to the area west of Hartfell. On 27th flew to the east of Hartfell and so north to Stanhope. August 22nd - 27th 07 September 2011: Same areas Roxy has remained in same general areas - ranging over 150 square km, and to the north of Broad Law today. 17 September 2011: Roxy flies back to Galloway Forest Park Roxy was in his usual haunts between Broadlaw, Dunrig and Stobo until morning of 14 September when he flew south past Moffat and crossed the M74 road to the area around Queensberry. On the 15th, he flew west out of the Borders and by 6 PM was at Craiglee and then to Loch Braden in the Galloway Forest Park. He ranged in that area and then wandered south to Mullwharcher on the 17th.
