Greetings from Holy Family Catholic Schools! Holy Family Catholic Schools As I reflect on my first year as chief administrator, I’m pleased to look back at a year 2011–2012 filled with major accomplishments for our system. I invite you to take a few minutes to review this annual report, a compilation of our 2011–2012 highlights and Carol Trueg Chief Administrator a reflection of the hard work and generosity of our staff, students, parents and Catholic community.

Board of Education While I’m very proud of all of our accomplishments, I’m not satisfied. At the start of the 2011–2012 school year, Chief Administrator Carol Trueg challenged every member of the Holy Family staff to contribute to one goal: help make Holy Family Catholic Schools the top academic system in the state in five years.

With a renewed laser-like focus on faith and academics, the entire system set out with a plan to increase expectations immediately and also each year following for pre-K through 12th-grade students. With a curriculum aligned with the Iowa Core and expectations set by the Archdiocese of Dubuque, Holy Family helps students achieve at their highest potential and better prepares them for an ever-changing, competitive marketplace.

5 Academics THE IOWA ASSESSMENTS In 2011, the Iowa Assessments underwent more than a name change; the format of the tests changed as well. This in turn caused a typical fluctuation in results, essentially resetting the benchmarks. Our focus at Holy Family is to use Iowa Assessment data, and other standardized test data, to analyze ways we can help our students continue to achieve significantly better than expected in each subject from year to year.

COMING IN 2012

During the 2012–2013 school year, Holy Family Catholic Schools will introduce the Measures of Academic Progress™ (MAP) tests to students in grades K–11. These Web-based tests will be taken three times a year. Results from the tests help determine each student’s instructional level and predicted annual academic growth throughout the school year, as well as from year to year in the areas of reading, science and math.

Ultimately, the tests will show our teachers how they can tailor instruction to each student’s needs to ensure that the student grows at expected rates throughout the year. Parents and guardians will be able to monitor their child’s progress throughout the year as well.

Kairos Spiritual Retreat Athletic Highlights In March, 30 juniors, six seniors and six faculty members attended the first Wahlert Catholic February 2011–June 2012 Kairos retreat.
