I send greetings in the name of the executive wishing all companies God’s blessing on whatever your plans are this session. At the start of our Golden Jubilee celebrations it’s only natural that we look back and give thanks for the work of those 50 years. To officers and boys, many who are now officers, we thank you for your contribution to the work of the Battalion in advancing Christ’s Kingdom among boys. 50 years ago in Northern Ireland the Northern Ireland Civil Rights Association was founded. Myrina is launched from the Musgrave Yard slipway at Harland and Wolff, the first super tanker and largest ship built in the United Kingdom. Taoiseach Jack Lynch and Prime Minister of Northern Ireland Terence O’Neill meet for talks at Stormont. So as we look forward to celebrating 50 years, we are thankful to Donald Blair, who has been in Greenisland Boys’ Brigade for over 50 years, for agreeing to record the history of the Battalion in words and pictures. We will celebrate further with dinner on Thursday 27th April 2017 and we will hold our tri-annual AGM that night and we look forward to new talent coming through to fill the posts.

A programme of events including a Civic Reception at City Hall to mark the 125th Anniversary of The Boys Brigade in Ireland, the Annual General Meeting of The Boys' Brigade and a Sunday morning service is being organised. As this is the AGM of the Brigade I trust East Antrim Battalion will be well represented. I will be there so if you wish to record a vote you can do so via proxy. The Battalion has continued to function with less meetings but hopefully still communicating with officers via the website, quarterly newsletters and facebook. If you don’t receive this information like us on facebook and register your e-mail on the website. Please remember we still hold two meeting per session and you can find the dates below. The website continues to be our main communication tool and we have had over 1,000,000 hits in last year and averaging 2000 visitors a month. Please make sure you keep up to date by visiting the site regularly and if you are involved with competitions or events please email a report to [email protected] so that the site is kept up to date. In April we held a very successful quiz evening in Ballynure and that event replaced our AGM.

THETHE REGISTRYREGISTRY BOOKSBOOKS Page 2 Clifton Street Cemetery One of the most historically interesting facets of any burying ground are, without doubt, its registry books. Although the New Burying Ground was opened in 1797, it was not until 1831 that the Belfast Charitable Society began to keep a registry of all interments. It is unknown why they did not keep a registry from the beginning, but one reason may be that they were more interested in making money to finance the poor-house through the selling of the graves, than to worry about recording who was being buried in them. However at a meeting held in the poor-house on the 18th of December 1830 it was: Resolved -that a registry of all the interments in the Burying Ground of the Charitable Society be kept from the commencement of the next year, and that the Rev. Messrs Macartney and Hicks be requested to have a suitable book prepared for the purpose. The first burial recorded was on the 4th of January, 1831. However, the exact number of people buried in the burying ground before that will never be known. At a rough estimate it could be guessed that around 3,600 burials could have taken place before 1831. That is if up to 100 people had been buried per year, which was below the average amount of burials taking place throughout the 1830s. The figures shown in the three volumes of the registry books are approximately: Volume 1 1831-1841, 2,640 Volume 2 1841-1864, 5,489 Volume 3 1865-1984, 3,109 Add on the pre-1831 figures and the number of those buried in the New Burying Ground could be as high as 14,000.

This will inform our public engagement on these issues. Outline of requirements The survey should adopt a robust sampling methodology to ensure that it is representative of adults across Northern Ireland, and that at least 1000 interviews are obtained. We are interested in identifying differences in attitudes between sub-groups of the population, the most important being parents of children (rather than parents of adults), so the tender should outline the sample size of the sub-group required to allow for robust comparisons. This report presents the methodology including sampling details and a summary of topline findings for the research on Physical Punishment. Methodology Rationale It was understood this element of the research project should measure and examine the views of both the general public and parents of children aged under 18 in particular. We concurred with the requirements as outlined, that it was imperative that this research was conducted amongst a large robust sample of both populations across Northern Ireland.

NI Multiple Deprivation Measure 2010: New Local Government
NI Multiple Deprivation Measure 2010: New Local Government District Profiles The reform of local government will see the reduction in the number of councils from 26 to 11 by 20151. Northern Ireland Multiple Deprivation Measure (NIMDM) 2010 area profiles are currently available on the NISRA website for the 26 existing Local Government Districts (LGDs). These area profiles have now been produced for the 11 new LGDs and are based on the NIMDM 2010 results. The base data has not been updated and still relates to the indicators and data as noted in the original report. This report shows the NIMDM 2010 Super Output Area (SOA) ranks for the 11 new LGDs2. All 2001 SOAs have been assigned to the new district council based on January 2013 Pointer and the new district council boundaries provided by Land & Property Services. In the following tables, where SOAs cross two or more LGDs, the LGD where the greatest share of the SOA Pointer properties nest, is assigned as the main LGD – see notes to tables for further details. 3 The Central Postcode Directory (CPD) is a product produced by NISRA to relate both current and terminated postcodes in Northern Ireland to a range of statutory, administrative, electoral and statistical geographies. The CPD will be updated in Summer 2013 to include the new LGDs and wards. For further information on the CPD visit the NISRA Geography website. A full review of the NIMDM 2010 is expected to start in 2014/15 after the detailed Small Area results of the 2011 Census have been published.
