The Promise of Canada Speaker: Charlotte Gray

Author of 10 acclaimed works of literary non-fiction, Charlotte Gray is one of Canada’s best- known biographers and historians. Her most recent best-seller is The Promise of Canada: 150 Years – people and ideas that have shaped our country. She is also the author of The Massey Murder, which won major Canadian non-fiction awards. Her award-winning bestseller Reluctant Genius: and the Passion for Invention is in production as a television miniseries. The television miniseries Klondike, broadcast on the Discovery Channel in January 2014, was based on Charlotte’s 2010 award-winning bestseller Gold Diggers, Striking It Rich in the Klondike. The book is also the basis for a PBS documentary.

Born in Sheffield, , and educated at Oxford University and the London School of Economics, Charlotte worked as a political commentator, book reviewer and magazine columnist before she turned to biography and popular history. An adjunct research professor at , she holds five honorary degrees and is a member of the Order of Canada and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. A regular guest on television and radio programs, she lives in Ottawa with her husband, George Anderson, and has three sons.

Thursday, December 15, at 10.30 a.m.: There will be a guided tour of Vintage Wings of Canada at Gatineau-Ottawa Executive Airport. Cost is $8 per person. Information and sign-up sheets describing this amazing museum will be available at the December Probus meeting.

ITR Theatre Company’s fall production features two one-act comedies by Norm Foster -- My Narrator, in which that little voice in the head takes on a life of its own, and The Death of Me, about a second chance to fix the mistakes of your past. There is a dinner show ($50) November 26 and a regular evening performance November 25, with a matinee November 27 (adults $18, seniors $15).
