Studied Arabic at UT and Baylor, as well as abroad at the American University in Cairo, Saifi Language Institute in Beirut, , and private tutoring in Nablus, West Bank, Palestine. Completed the highest level offered at the American University in Beirut’s Summer Arabic Institute (Advanced High) during the Summer of 2017.

Spanish—Reading and Intermediate Speaking

Completed a PhD-level course in Spanish at UT (participated in class discussion in English, but completed all readings in Spanish). Studied Spanish in Barcelona, Spain, as well as for three years in high school. Lived in a Spanish-immersive setting in Bucaramanga, Colombia.

Hebrew—Beginning

Studied Biblical Hebrew as an undergraduate. Studying modern Hebrew as a doctoral student.

Copyediting Intern The Daily Star Lebanon, Lebanon News Desk, Beirut, Lebanon, June-August 2018 Supervisor: Ms. Susannah Walden Edited English-language copy for daily publication in print and online editions of newspaper. Translated event agendas from Arabic into English for publication. Created English-language news stories from Arabic-language press releases and Lebanese-state-run online sources. Monitored international news wires, editing and posting stories to The Daily Star’s website and social media platforms.

Graduate Research Assistant University of Texas at Austin Department of Government, September-December 2016 Supervisor: Dr. Mike Findley Cleaned data and entered geo-located data for natural resource mines in countries with histories of conflict. The final study is under review in the Journal of Conflict Resolution under the title “Natural Resources and Civil Conflict: Evidence from a New, Georeferenced Dataset” (Denly, Findley, Hall, Stravers, & Walsh).

Volunteer English Teacher Project HOPE, Nablus, West Bank, Palestine, January-March 2016 Taught 15 hours per week of English classes to students age 5-60 in UN refugee camps and at An-Najah National University.
