It's an assassination! No, the Thanagarians have attacked! No, it's Jemm Son of Saturn! No, it's a dark conspiracy!By Karen AmrheinI enjoyed aspects of this New Krypton quartet, but the story was either too long or too short: too long for the amount of story it told, and too short for a proper exploration of the creation of a new planet and Superman's living there as a soldier. Also -- and this is typical of all four volumes in the series, but perhaps especially Volume 4 -- things suddenly happen from out-of-nowhere. For example, suddenly the Thanagarians attack and there's a big-old space battle, but then it all ends quickly and soon the Thanagarians are friends, and then Jemm Son of Saturn shows up, but soon they all leave and this reader was left wondering, "What the heck was that?". Further, and also typical of the series, the artwork is inconsistent, and far-too-often mediocre. Finally, the big mystery of all four volumes is wrapped up pretty quickly, and kind of unsatisfactorily. So, while I had fun with these books, overall -- and especially with #4 -- I found them scatter-shot and sketchy.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. New Krypton Vol. 4 HCBy Xavier Zavala HerasI liked this one. It involves mistery, but it lack a little action. It wasn't as exiting as Vol. 3.The art on this one was more consistent and cooler than VOl. 1 and 2 so it was a good view. The story is good, but it doens't end there. It is pretty obvious the it'll continue in Last Stand of New Krypton. This book have variant cover gallery at the end with sketches and 3D models of some charaters and backrounds that makes the book a bit cooler than the rest so far. Before yuo read this I recommend you to give a look to Codename: Patriot (ask it borrowed... do NOT buy) because it contain some relevant tips for this particular edition. Also, only if yuo wish, you can read Mon-El Vol. 1 and Nightwing and Flamebird just to check a couple of things for this volume. I repeat I do NOT recommend to buy the books I mentioned. Only read them by asking it borrowed or check it online. ALthough they might have relevant things the books are not as good as New Krypton. Not to spend money on them anyway.regarding N.K. Volume 4, as I did with the other volumes, I recommend to get the paperback edition and save the money. The number of pages is the same and this hardback book doesn't really "jump" for it's look.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. TremendousBy Reviewer from TerraWhat do... General El, an injured Zod, murders on new Krypton, a battle with thangarians, conspiracies and moving a moon equal? A great story by James Robinson and awesome artwork. Following the events of the "New Krypton" crossover, The Man of Steel has moved to a new planet filled with Kryptonians he's long thought to be dead. Leaving Earth behind for a life as a man in the Kryptonian military, Superman has had to make many sacrifices in order to appease his people while averting a conflict with the other species who make up the DC Universe's cosmic landscape. But while all the diplomacy takes place, an attempt on the life of a high-ranking Kryptonian sends Superman to Earth on a mission that may ignite the very conflict he's been avoiding. Co-written by Greg Rucka (GOTHAM CENTRAL, DETECTIVE COMICS) and James Robinson (STARMAN, JUSTICE LEAGUE: CRY FOR JUSTICE) with crisp art by Pete Woods (WONDER WOMAN: AMAZONS ATTACK, SUPERMAN: BACK IN ACTION)! • What Superman Teaches Us About the American Dream and Changing Values Within the United States
TRUTH, JUSTICE, AND THE AMERICAN WAY: WHAT SUPERMAN TEACHES US ABOUT THE AMERICAN DREAM AND CHANGING VALUES WITHIN THE UNITED STATES Lauren N. Karp AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OF Lauren N. Karp for the degree of Master of Arts in English presented on June 4, 2009 . Title: Truth, Justice, and the American Way: What Superman Teaches Us about the American Dream and Changing Values within the United States Abstract approved: ____________________________________________________________________ Evan Gottlieb This thesis is a study of the changes in the cultural definition of the American Dream. I have chosen to use Superman comics, from 1938 to the present day, as litmus tests for how we have societally interpreted our ideas of “success” and the “American Way.” This work is primarily a study in culture and social changes, using close reading of comic books to supply evidence. I argue that we can find three distinct periods where the definition of the American Dream has changed significantly—and the identity of Superman with it. I also hypothesize that we are entering an era with an entirely new definition of the American Dream, and thus Superman must similarly change to meet this new definition. Truth, Justice, and the American Way: What Superman Teaches Us about the American Dream and Changing Values within the United States by Lauren N.
