Port Phillip (C)

The is located on the northern edge of Port Phillip and south of the CBD. The most populous community is St Kilda. Per annum population growth has been slightly higher than average since 2002, but is projected to slow to around average through to 2022. 47.7% of the population is in the 25-44 age group while other age groups are underrepresented. The level of cultural diversity is similar to the state average, with 21.5% born in a non-English speaking country and 21.4% speaking a language other than English at home. The percentage of the population who are accepting of diverse cultures is the second highest in the state. Both the total crime rate and drug offences are relatively high. Median household income is well above average and the percentage of low income individuals is the lowest in the state. Rates of mortgage and rental stress are among the lowest of all LGAs, despite high house prices and lack of rental affordability. The percentage of social housing is more than twice the Victorian average at 8%. Nearly 70% have a higher education qualification and less than 20% did not complete year 12. Port Phillip scores well on a range of health indicators, with levels of type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, smoking, arthritis and soft drink consumption among the lowest in the state. However the proportion of people who do not meet the physical activity guidelines is higher than average, and the percentage who sit for at least 7 hours a day is third highest in the state. Nearly 46% of persons aged 75+ live alone, the second highest of all LGAs, but the rate of age pension recipients is well below average. Port Phillip has a lower than average rate of inpatient separations, with nearly half being from private hospital.
