Placement project summary Describe the nature and purpose of the placement, including the types of work that a student will undertake as part of the project.

In 2019, the Albury Wodonga social work team will host a Family Violence forum sometime in the period 25 November – 6 December as part of the 16 days of activism to end -based violence. The focus will be on cross border challenges and opportunities for services and practitioners. We envisage a half day (afternoon) gathering at the La Trobe Albury Wodonga campus with an official opening, a panel discussion then group discussions at tables comprised of students, practitioners and others employed by relevant services from across the Albury Wodonga . The placement would involve: research and compilation of a literature review about the topic as well as some administrative duties to assist with planning, organising and delivering the event.

Selection Criteria (Essential & Desired) What skills and abilities are needed for this placement? Does the student require any particular qualifications or experience? (E.g. preferred majors, degree type, interests or required skills).

An interest in the topic of gender based violence. Ability to work collegially with others and also to work independently. An interest in learning about research and strong academic writing skills. An interest in event management and strong organisational skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal mediums.

Application processes and deadlines How and when would you like interested students to apply? Will interview be required? *Please note: timelines will be informed by La Trobe University Semester dates and subject application cut-offs. Placements usually occur in Semester 2 (August – October) and summer (November – February) Allow at least 6 weeks between student applications and the beginning of placement.

Students must apply initially via the La Trobe University process for SHE3FRW. Once applications have been received, students will be advised by the subject Coordinator of the next steps.
