This industrial activity has received huge impetus from a fast growing demand for the ceramic products from both the domestic (urban and rural regions) and global markets. Drawing upon both primary and secondary sources of information, this analysis emphasizes the sustained role of the state and industry collective towards effecting major upgrading of technology, product diversification and external orientation through proactive, responsive and symbiotic approaches to policy initiatives including rescaling territory, infusing an innovative ethos and reaching out to wider markets. An attempt has been made to delineate strategies of firms in clusters to upgrade business ecosystem and specific role the provincial state and local industry associations in addressing challenges of imports as also competing producers outside Morbi. These efforts have resulted in lowering of costs, creating jobs and accessing newer markets both in the domestic and global spheres.

ARTS AND COMMERCE COLLEGE, KESHOD ABSTRACT: Ceramic Tiles today have become an integral part of home improvement. It can make a huge difference to the way your interiors and outdoors look and express, though the ceramic industry is facing many challenges and problems associated with production and many other related problems ceramic industry, despite an overall slowdown of the economy continues to grow at a healthy 15% per annum. However, the most important centres of modem and organized ceramic industries in India are Kolkatta, Mumbai, Thane, Chennai, Gwalior, Khuija, Chunar, Nizamabad, Morbi, Thangadh, Dharwad, Hubli, Mangalore and Bangalore. Gujarat now occupies second position among the Indian states as far as the ceramic units are concerned. Roofing tiles, sanitary wares, Glazed tiles, crockery and pottery, electric porcelain, other ceramic and art ware units together account for 671 industries in Gujarat. MSMEs contribute 8 percent of the country’s GDP,45 percent of manufactured out put and 40 percent of exports. The labour to capital Ratio in MSMEs is much higher than in large industries. More over, MSMEs are better dispersed. Hence, MSMEs are going to play vital role for achieving the National objective of inclusive and sustainable growth. DC (MSME) is focusing on implementation of different policies/ schemes at the ground level. The growth of the MSME sector will reach greater heights, if stress is given on all key identified challenges such as finance, infrastructure, technology, procurement, skill development. etc. District Industrial Potential Survey Report of Rajkot District(2014-15) has been prepared by this Institute. This report provides valuable information of Resources, Infrastructure, Potential available in Rajkot District. It is hoped that the District Industrial Potential Survey Report will be helpful to the entrepreneurs, policy makers, institutions / other stake holders engaged in the developmental activities of MSMEs. It is also hoped that the report will enable stakeholders in effective implementation of various Government schemes which in turn will make MSME sector more and more competitive.
