Class Representative Program

Presently Fordham Prep is forming a Class Representative Program whose mission is to keep alumni connected to each other and to the school, and to encourage support of the Prep’s Annual Fund. The Class Representatives will act as liaisons between their classes and the Prep. They will communicate with their classmates to share news about the Prep’s programs and activities and the importance of participation in the Annual Fund. There are now more than 165 Class Representatives as indicated below. Our program is still in formation and additional representatives will be needed. We look forward to launching this program which will the Prep in achieving its goals and also help to keep our alumni in touch with each other and our school.

Fordham Prep Remembers 9/11

The entire Fordham Prep community gathered in the Leonard Theater at the beginning of the school day on Monday, September 12, 2011 to remember and pray for those who lost their lives and those who gave their lives ten years ago. Colleen Kelly, mother of Dylan Jones ’12, shared a memory of her brother, Bill Kelly, Jr., who died on 9/11, and a remembrance of the welcome Bill gave to a new student when he was a student at Bishop Egan High School in Levittown, PA. Prep grads and friends were prayed for by name. It was a marvelous example of faith, hope and love in this special Ignatian community called Fordham Prep.

Take, for instance, the legendary ring of the equally legendary Coach and Prep library. Dean of Students, Bruce Bott ’59, whose ring was lost one evening during a trip Perhaps it was only natural that Quinn’s Hobbits would find a home here into the City. Years later, while dining in Times Square, Coach Bott noticed in the Bronx. Long before Jonas Bronck had ever landed on these shores, the that his waiter was proudly sporting a Ram-etched, maroon-stoned Rose Hill Weckquaesgeeks and the Siwanoy called parts of the place Ranachqua, or ring — presumably a fellow Prep grad. Well, it turned out that the waiter was Ranaqua, a name more or less meaning “Cul-de-Sac,” or in English, “Bag End” not an alum at all, but had actually picked it up at a pawnshop. Against all odds, — a translation any Prep French teacher could confirm, from Mr. McDonald it was a 1959 ring — the very one Bruce had lost years before. So Coach Bott got to go home with his ring that night, and the waiter, with perhaps the most generous tip of his career. As for invisibility rings, Frodo and Company had nothing on Louis Colletti ’74, whose Prep ring pulled a two-decade disap- pearing act. He lost his class ring at school sometime before gradua- tion, only to have it turn up just about 20 years later in 1992 — in, of all places, the Gym Locker Room, the very room where he probably lost it, and a room, mind you, that had been dismantled, painted and reassembled more than once between the Nixon and Bush Administrations. But the award for the most epic ring journey goes to Eugene McCarthy ’56, whose lost ring washed up in 2006 on the shores of Vero Beach, Florida, a decade after it had presumably been burgled back in New Jersey. Talk about there and back again! One would be amiss to bring up magic rings without mentioning the Prep’s role-players, the Dungeons & Dragons crowd.
