Frequently Asked Questions: Where is this event? We will be climbing multi-pitch routes on Seneca Rocks. SR, West Virginia is about 3.5 hours from Peak RVA. Centrally located in Monongahela National Forest which is part of the Spruce Knob/ Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area. What does the trip include? ● Two days multi-pitch climbing (Saturday and Sunday) with professional, certified guides ● Waffle breakfast Saturday and Sunday (with all the fixins) ● Spaghetti, salad, and beverages for Saturday dinner (Just bring water, lunch, and snacks for the days you are climbing) ● *If you have any special dietary needs, you can utilize our outdoor kitchen* ○ Refrigerator ○ Stove and oven ○ Pots and pans ○ Dishes and utensils ○ Grill ● Free camping at SRMG ○ The night before, during, and after your time climbing with us ○ We provide the place, you provide the camping equipment ● All the rock climbing gear provided by srmg ● Outdoor shower with hot and cold water ○ With a view of the rocks (if you're tall enough) ● Campground has a private bathroom Not into camping? No, but since this is a Peak event, you can coordinate with other participants so that you can carpool. How much? $250 per person What is the schedule like? If you can make it Friday night, you can participate in a Rescue Seminar. Breakfast will be at 8am and we leave to start climbing at 9am on Saturday and Sunday. How long is the day? We usually get back around 5pm. How much experience do I need? None needed!! We will work with anyone from little to no experience. What if I have been climbing for years? You should still come! Trad and Multi is very different from indoor and outdoor sport climb. Each group is customized after a discussion of your experience and goals. What will the weather be like? Since this event is happening in November, we recommend that you bring layers and comfortable clothing. The weather in the mountains is always unpredictable.The rock is oriented so that we can climb in the sun or shade all day. If this event is postponed due to inclement weather, your reservation will be transferred to our Spring date in April. Can I sign up alone? YES! What to bring? Standard Items: ● Daypack (small to medium backpack) ● 2-3 Water Bottles Per Person ○ Total of at Least 2 Quarts/Liters Per Person ● Lunch/Snacks ○ Packable (carried with you while climbing) ● Weather Appropriate Clothing ○ Non-Restrictive ○ Synthetics Recommended ○ Wind/Rain Jacket ○ Gloves and hats ● Closed-Toed Shoes ○ Sneakers/Athletic Shoes ○ Lightweight Hikers ● Camping and sleeping gear ○ Can fit 8 two person tents at base camp Optional Items: ● Personal Climbing Equipment (shoes, harness, belay device and carabiner, helmet) ● Sunscreen ● Sunglasses ● Camera How do I get there? From Richmond and Other Points South (about a 3.5 hour drive): ● Take I-64 West to Staunton, VA. ● Take I –81 North to Harrisonburg, VA. ● Take Exit 243, keeping right towards US 11 N ● Take a left onto Erickson Avenue ● Take a left onto 33 West ● Follow Rt. 33 West through the mountains to Seneca Rocks, WV ● At the stop sign in the town of Seneca Rocks, turn Left onto Rt. 33/55. ● Seneca Rocks Mountain Guides is in the first building on the Right. Can I bring my dog or pet? Leave them at home. How young can participants be? Children need to be accompanied by an adult. Children 14 and below be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Do I need my own equipment? No. If you own personal climbing equipment, you are more than welcome to bring that. SRMG can provide all the gear needed also. What are some of the local amenities? Right across the street are two general stores, Harpers Old Country Store and Yokums Country Store. There is a pizza place on second story of Harper’s and diner on first floor of Yokum’s. For groceries, stop at the Great Value in Franklin, grocery stores along the way in, or bring your fresh foods from home For gas, Harrisonburg will be the last cheap gas, Franklin is last reliable gas station on the way. What happens if the weather postpones the event? If the event is postponed due to inclement weather, the makeup date is April 17-19, 2020. When will I know if the event is postponed? The weather at Seneca can change very quickly and forecasts are rarely reliable. We will let you know 24 hours before the event (by Thursday night) if the event has to be postponed due to inclement weather. How do I sign up?
