For Action Routing Changes - Junction Area Study Update Date: July 10, 2018 To: TTC Board From: Chief Customer Officer Summary The TTC bus network is very mature. In order to ensure that the network continues to reflect the way our customers travel across the city, staff has developed a program to review different segments of the city over time. This report provides an update on the status of the Junction Area Study. The objective of the study is to improve transit travel for customers by restructuring the bus route network in the Junction Area. In spring 2017, the TTC began the study with a customer survey to better understand customer travel patterns in the Junction Area. Feedback was also collected on existing services to identify key concerns for customers. Three key issues were identified: • No continuous transit service along Dundas Street West between Dundas West Station and Kipling Station; • No continuous transit service along St Clair Avenue West between Gunn's Loop (Weston Road) and Scarlett Road; and, • Need to extend the 80 Queensway from its current eastern terminus at Humber Loop to Keele Station via Parkside Drive in the late evening and on Sundays and holidays. Based on this feedback, staff prepared and proposed a preliminary transit network to reflect the data collected and address concerns raised by customers. The new transit network includes a number of service proposals that include restructuring and rationalizing existing services and improving periods of service on routes. In May 2018, the TTC held public information sessions at Runnymede, High Park, and Dundas West stations, and Gunn’s Loop to share the proposed transit network with customers and to collect feedback on the proposals. -

Described views marked with [H] are views of heritage properties and are specifically subject to the view protection policies of section 3.1.5 of the Official Plan. A. PROMINENT AND HERITAGE BUILDINGS, STRUCTURES & LANDSCAPES A1. Queens Park Legislature [H] This view has been described in a comprehensive study and is the subject of a site and area specific policy of the Official Plan. It is not described in this schedule. A2. Old City Hall [H] The view of Old City hall includes the main entrance, tower and cenotaph as viewed from the southwest and southeast corners at Temperance Street and includes the silhouette of the roofline and clock tower. This view will also be the subject of a comprehensive study. A3. Toronto City Hall [H] The view of City Hall includes the east and west towers, the council chamber and podium of City Hall and the silhouette of those features as viewed from the north side of Queen Street West along the edge of the eastern half of Nathan Phillips Square. This view will be the subject of a comprehensive study. A4. Knox College Spire [H] The view of the Knox College Spire, as it extends above the roofline of the third floor, can be viewed from the north along Spadina Avenue at the southeast corner of Bloor Street West and at Sussex Avenue. Lemon Fonds BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE: Raised in West Lorne, Ontario, James (Jim) Thomas Lemon attended the University of Western Ontario where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Geography (1955). He later attended the University of Wisconsin where he received a Master of Science in Geography (1961) as well as his Ph.D. (1964). In 1967, after having worked as an Assistant Professor at the University of California, Prof. Lemon joined the University of Toronto Geography Department, where he remained until his retirement in 1994. His career has been spent in the field of urban historical geography of which he has written numerous articles, papers and chapters in books. -

STAFF REPORT ACTION REQUIRED Intention to Designate under Part IV, Section 29 of the Ontario Heritage Act – 211 Laird Drive Date: February 7, 2012 Toronto Preservation Board To: North York Community Council From: Acting Director, Policy & Research, City Planning Division Wards: Don Valley West – Ward 26 Reference P:\2012\Cluster B\PLN\HPS\NYCC\March 20 2012\nyHPS13 Number: SUMMARY This report recommends that City Council state its intention to designate the property at 211 Laird Drive (Pease Foundry Company Building) under Part IV, Section 29 of the Ontario Heritage Act. City Council listed the property on the City of Toronto Inventory of Heritage Properties on January 27, 2010. Located on the southeast corner of Laird Drive and Vanderhoof Avenue, staff have researched and assessed the property and determined that it meets the provincial criteria prescribed for municipal designation under Part IV, Section 29 of the Ontario Heritage Act. The restoration of the site for commercial uses was completed in 2011, and the property owners have agreed to its designation. RECOMMENDATIONS The City Planning Division recommends that: 1. City Council state its intention to designate the property at 211 Laird Drive under Part IV, Section 29 of the Ontario Heritage Act. 2. If there are no objections to the designation in accordance with Section 29(6) of the Ontario Heritage Act, City Council authorize the City Solicitor to introduce the bills in Council designating the property under Part IV, Section 29 of the Ontario Heritage Act. In July of 1796, two brothers, Isaiah and Aaron Skinner were given permission to build a grist mill in the Don Valley, which they proceeded to do that winter. This began an industrial complex of paper mill, grist mill, brewery and distillery with later additions. In 1996, East York is celebrating 200 years of community. ANNUAL WALKING TOUR: Saturday, June 4th 2016 START TIME: 1:30 pm - The walk will start in Neil McClellan Park on the west side of Runnymede Road, across from the Runnymede subway station, and finish with refreshments at the Swansea Town Hall TOPIC: An Introduction to Swansea – Still a Community The Swansea Historical Society thankfully acknowledges funding grants from the following provincial bodies: President's Message by Bob Roden, President We have had a very eventful and exciting year, and I want to extend a sincere thank-you to all those who made it happen. The May 4 meeting was our last formal meeting before the summer break. We will start up again in October with our Annual General Meeting and elections, and we have a full slate of interesting speakers confirmed for the 2016-2017 programme year. In the meantime, we will be participating in several neighbourhood events, which we invite you to attend, including various guided historical walking tours. We hope to see you at our walking tours on June 4 and August 13, which will be led by Lance Gleich. Also, we plan to set up information tables at the Bloor West Village Sidewalk Sale on June 18 and the Montgomery's Inn Corn Roast & Heritage Fair on September 8, and we are seeking volunteers to take a shift at the SHS table for either one or both of those dates. See “Future Events” below, for more details on all of these happenings. OSSINGTON AVENUE AREA STUDY COMMENTARY AND *** 103-111 Ossington Avenue PLANNING OPINION TORONTO'S GROWTH IMPERATIVE The City of Toronto is forecast to have approximately 3.08 million residents by 2031 – representing a growth in population of approximately 500,000 over the next 20 years. [AVENUES & MID-RISE BUILDINGS STUDY: Introduction] Toronto labelled its 21st century urban ambition, its Official Plan, an Intensification Strategy... – Intensification is about increasing magnitudes. Meanwhile, cities around the globe labelled their comparable efforts as Consolidation Strategies... – Consolidation is about how things fit together. Toronto launched its Official Plan without an accompanying Zoning By-law – an implement intended to inform development with articulating metrics. As a result, the existing in-force Zoning was dismissed as archaic, though little or no change was anticipated throughout the majority of the city... – “the planned context typically reinforces the existing context”. [OP: 3.1.2 BUILT FORM] The development industry embraced intensification as an invitation to open the bidding. The notion of an intensification imperative arose, manifest in spiralling and spreading height and density increases... – in effect: urban sprawl. * A perfect storm had arisen, fuelled by intensification without metrics, amplified by assertions of a growth imperative, resulting in proposals such as the 103-111 Ossington Avenue proposal...begging the question of veracity, as to whether this is a fitting solution. ||| OSSINGTON AVENUE IS NOT AN AVENUE, NOT AN AREA TARGETED FOR GROWTH Policy 2.
