Career Technical Education (CTE): Powerplant Avionics Under the supervision of the site principal or designee and guidance of the College’s Career and Economic Development Department (CCED), the CTE Airframe Powerplant Avionics Teacher plans and implement learning activities that support Fontana Unified School District’s Avionics Airframe and Powerplant mechanics program. The CTE Avionics Teacher will be the primary instructor for students to receive training in the industry. The teacher accomplishes this by providing students with a program of study that teaches required program skills, develops employability skills, and reinforces academic skills through use of rigorous curricula. The Teacher will also handle all responsibilities associated with developing a high-tech laboratory. The teacher will be teaching Airframe Powerplant curriculum that meets the Federal Aviation Administration standards. Duties and Responsibilities: • Provide a variety of learning activities in the Airframe and Power Plant Aviation classroom and laboratory, reinforcing instruction related to the Aviation Maintenance Technology program. • Assist students with developing and attaining skills, knowledge, and abilities related to various areas of Aviation Maintenance Technology such as those described in the applicable program, course descriptions, and respective course outlines of record. • Inspect, operate, and maintain a variety of equipment used in the field of aviation maintenance such as, but not limited to: hydraulic mules, start carts, hoists, dollies, cribbing, chocks, lathes, mills, drill presses, brakes, saws, measuring devices, etc., and assist students in the operation of said equipment. • Fabricate and maintain structures, apparatuses, and equipment in support of the Aviation Maintenance Technology classroom, laboratory, and related instructional activities. • Provide technical support to students in learning inspection, troubleshooting, and diagnosing problems, malfunctions, fabrication, maintenance, and other techniques and activities. • Advise and assist students with maintenance and repairs to electronic devices, components, and equipment; assist students in performing tests on equipment and replacing defective or broken components. • Set up and oversee experiments and equipment; plan, organize, and lay out lab tasks and projects; interpret and explain diagrams, sketches, schematics, technical manuals, and specifications. Organize and maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom, laboratory, and work areas. • Maintain liaison with the Federal Aviation Administration, local airports, Community College/technical training programs, and industry stakeholders. • Manage classroom in a manner conducive to learning. • Participate in demonstrations, extra-curricular activities, community awareness/education programs, and other activities to further promote the program or school. • Develop and adapt instructional materials and experiences to meet individual student’s needs, aptitudes, and interests. • Attend workshops and trainings that will support students with required industry skills. • Plan and conduct appropriate educational field experiences. • Teach and enforce safety practices required for the classroom and industry. • Work effectively as part of a team. • Collaborate in planning process for modifications in curriculum. • Assist students in developing an individualized learning plan to prepare for employment, advanced training, or career advancement. • Participate actively in subject matter industry advisory committee. • Keep abreast of current aviation practices, technology, and training methods. • Assist in College and Career Readiness activities. • Accurately report student attendance and submit reports in a timely manner. • Ensure students participate in a student-led organization (i.e. Skills USA). • Perform other duties as required.

Required Experience: Licenses and other requirements:

• Valid and appropriate licensing and certification related to assigned subject matter or discipline may be required. (A current and valid FAA Airframe and Power Plant license is required for this specific position.) • May require a valid class C California driver's license. • Three years full-time experience working in the industry as an Airframe and Powerplant mechanic.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Bachelors and/or Master’s degree in aviation or Aerospace Science or related subject matter from an accredited program. • Airframe and Powerplant Instructor experience.

Credentials and Experience:

• Appropriate Designated Subject Career Technical Education Credential in Transportation or eligible. • For verification of eligibility, the following must be submitted with application:

o Verify three years of work experience directly related to each subject. One year equals 1,000 clock hours. o May substitute 48 semester units of postsecondary vocational coursework related to the subject for a maximum of two of the three years of work experience. Additionally, one of the following may be used as one year of work experience toward meeting the three .years of required experience: ▪ Possession of an advanced industry certificate related to the industry sector to be named on the preliminary credential, as determined by a Commission-approved CTE program sponsor. ▪ One year of full-time general education teaching experience providing instructional services in preschool or grades K-12 earned in a public or private school of equivalent status. • At least one year of the required work experience must be within the five years immediately preceding the issuance of the credential. • High School Diploma or equivalent. • Valid Drivers’ License. • EL Authorization.
