Achievement and Progress in 2016 Overall, the GCSE results at Hampton College were better than in 2015 on all key performance indicators. INSIDE THIS ISSUE: At GCSE, 60% of students achieved an A*-C grade in both English and Mathematics, which is one of the new performance table headline figures. In a change to how schools in are rated, a new measure called ‘Progress 8’ is also being launched this year. This Head Teacher’s News 1-2 assesses students’ performance in eight of their GCSEs and compares their grades to all students nationally. Sixth Form Student Leadership & 3 Progress 8 data will be published in the New Year and Ambassadors we anticipate it will show Hampton College GCSE students in 2016 as having made strong progress, Important School Information 4-5 compared to their starting points on entry and Sixth Form Department News & compared to the national cohort. Progress 8 takes 6 account of every student in the year group (not just Young Carers those getting top grades) and is generally considered to be a fairer reflection of school performance than some PE Department News 7-9 of the older measures. Hampton Gardens School: Head of School and Consultation

We offer warm congratulations to our very own Mr Greenwood, who was recently appointed as the Head of School for the new Hampton Gardens School. He has been at Hampton College since the school opened in 2005 and has made an outstanding contribution over many years, both in the Mathematics Department and as a senior leader. He will move to the new school full-time in September 2017, to open the school to Year 7 students and lead the new staff team. Hampton College will now seek to appoint a replacement for Mr Greenwood at Hampton College’s secondary phase.

I also wrote to all parents recently to alert them to the Hampton Gardens consultation. Have your say about the new school by logging on to www.hamptongardens.org.uk by 11 November. One of the aspects we have been keen to emphasise to all stakeholders is that the two schools will operate a joint Sixth Form from September 2018. This means that all current Hampton College students in Year 10 and below will potentially benefit from the new facilities opening on the new site and from a wider offer in Post 16 courses coming on stream in coming years.

Hampton Academies Trust: Future Plans

The Hampton Academies Trust has just submitted another free school application to the Department for Education to open a new primary school, to serve the new housing development being built to the east of the A15. This is a competitive process, so we do not yet know whether our bid has been successful: we think successful bids are likely to be confirmed in the Spring of 2017. If our project were to be approved, we would hope to open to Reception children in 2019. Should you wish to find out more about our plans, you can find further details on the Trust website: www.hamptonacademiestrust.org.uk. Helen Price

European Day of Languages

The MFL Department celebrated the annual European Day of Languages on 26 September 2016 by exploring the diverse languages spoken by students within the College and recognising the value of speaking a different language.

The Language Leaders assisted at a French market hosted by the Hampton College Primary Phase which welcomed their Year 3 pupils, in addition to those from Hampton Vale Primary School. The £1 entrance fee was exchanged in the bureau de change at a rate of £1 to 1€!! This enabled the students to ask for various French food and drink items – in French of course!

Serpentine Green’s Reading Hero Competition

We are delighted that Zach Bradshaw (Year 7) has won the Serpentine Green Shopping Centre Reading Hero Competition. He has won £200 worth of vouchers, £100 to purchase books for our school, along with £100 vouchers for himself.

What a great achievement! Well done Zach.

This year’s Inclusion Ambassadors are: Danielle Smith, Coda Heap, Jack Rodriguez, Erin Langham, Katie Ronnay and Leah Rutterford.

Our names are: Britney Butterfield, Hollie Jessop, Aisha Ali, Jade Grima, Lauryn Phillips, Toby Temple and Hollie Nightingale. Furthermore, we are responsible for coordinating and improving the mentoring scheme within the student body. We are all really keen to make a difference to the students, little or big.

SIXTH FORM DEPARTMENT NEWS …. WORK EXPERIENCE

We are delighted to announce that the Sixth Form have joined with The Skills Service, to provide a managed programme of Work Experience for Sixth Formers. We have a limited number of places available and these have been first offered to BTEC students and subsequently to the whole Sixth Form.

We are currently working on training those signed up to the Scheme to use the database of workplace opportunities available. Students will apply for four placements of interest to them (offered online from a database provided by the Skills Service) and we hope to see places confirmed before half term.

SIXTH FORM SOCIAL

We went on our first Sixth Form Social to the Bowling Alley in Peterborough town centre on Thursday 29 September. We had a very good turn-out from both year groups and the bowling was competitive but very good-natured. It is important that we get to know each other outside of the classroom and we are grateful that so many joined in.

During Enrichment Week in Summer 2016, a number of our students worked on a mural to brighten up the Common Room. The completed mural is an amazing piece of work: an artistic depiction of subjects studied in the Sixth Form. We are very proud of their achievement.

KEEP YOUR HEAD ...

Many parents worry about their children’s emotional and mental health, which is a subject frequently discussed in the media. There is a new website available for you to look at, or share, with your child, full of useful links and starting points for conversations about keeping emotionally healthy:

Please have a look and together we can help our young people to ‘keep their heads strong and their hearts happy’.

Hampton College Community Project

Monday 26 September 2016

This project was run in conjunction with Get Set Community Action and Age UK Peterborough. Forging partnerships within the Hampton community, Peterborough. The event was about bringing the local community together to celebrate the successes of the GB team in the Rio Olympics and Paralympics.

Elderly residents who suffer from Dementia, Alzheimer's and other mental health problems were invited to Hampton College to take part in a multi-skills/sensory circuit, alongside students from Hampton College Primary Phase. The activities were led by Hampton College Secondary Sports Council Leaders. It was a chance for the residents in the community to interact with young children and teenagers, encouraging all involved to develop socially, morally, culturally and spiritually, instilling important British Values and Olympic Ideals and breaking down stereotypes.

Unfortunately due to staff sickness at a local care home, some residents were unable to attend. This meant that a very special few had an exciting morning put on just for them. The event started with a celebration of the GB team's success at the Rio Olympics and Paralympics. This was followed by a sensory circuit; Samba drumming, fruit smelling competition, guess the buildings quiz and ‘a what's in the box?’ competition. This was followed by a Rio tea party complete with spicy chicken, tropical fruit and of course some cake! A big thank you to the Cucina team who put on a great spread. Both the Primary and Secondary students
