Contribuţii Botanice – 2013, XLVIII: 27-37 Grădina Botanică “Alexandru Borza” Cluj-Napoca THE PRESENCE OF VERONICA SPECIES IN DIFFERENT NATURA 2000 HABITAT TYPES IN ROMANIA Silvia OROIAN,1 Mihaela SĂMĂRGHIŢAN2 1 University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Târgu-Mureş, Faculty of Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Botany and Cell Biology Department, 38 Gh. Marinescu Street, RO-540139 Târgu-Mureş, Romania 2 Mureş County Museum, Natural Science Department, 24 Horea Street, RO-540036 Târgu-Mureş, Romania e-mail: [email protected] Abstract: A principal objective of this study was to summarise the distribution of Veronica species in Romania, where such an inventory has not existed before. Taxa of Veronica genus were identified in 311 plant associations and 36 subassociations framed in 132 alliances. Of the 311 plant associations, 138 are included in various types of NATURA 2000 Habitats. The review of phytosociological data reveals the presence of Veronica taxa in 42 types of Natura 2000 habitats with scientific significance. Some of these Veronica taxa are characteristic species for alliances (i.e. Veronicion baumgartenii Coldea 1991, Veronico officinalis-Quercion Pop 1971) or differential species at plant association level (Veronico baumgartenii-Saxifragetum bryoidis Boşcaiu et al. 1977). Keywords: Veronica genus, Natura 2000 habitats, plant associations Introduction Veronica is considered among the richest genera of the vascular flora of Romania as well as of other European countries. As regards their systematic position, Veronica species were included until recently in the Scrophularioideae (Antirrhinoideae) subfamily, Scrophulariaceae family, Scrophulariales order, Asterideae subclass, Magnoliopsida class [7]. Because there are several classification systems for this genus, here we mention three of them, which we consider most recent. -

The Pyrenees
The Pyrenees A Greentours Holiday for the Alpine Garden Society 10th to 23rd June 2011 Led by Paul Cardy Trip Report and Systematic Lists by Paul Cardy Day 1 Friday 10 th June Arrival and Transfer to Formigueres Having driven from the south western Alps and reached Carcassonne the previous evening, I continued to Toulouse to meet the group at the airport. I was unexpectedly delayed by French customs who stopped me at the toll booth entering the city. There followed a lengthy questioning, as I had to unpack the contents of my suspiciously empty Italian mini-bus and show them my two large boxes of books, suitcase full of clothes, picnic supplies, etc., to convince them my purpose was a botanical tour to the Pyrenees. Now a little late I arrived breathlessly at Toulouse airport and rushed to the gate to meet Margaret, and the New Zealand contingent of Chris, Monica, Archie and Lynsie, hurriedly explaining the delay. Anyway we were soon back on the motorway and heading south towards Foix. White Storks in a field on route was a surprise. We made a picnic stop at a functional aire where there were tables, and a selection of weedy plants. Black Kite soared overhead. Once past Foix and Ax-les- Thermes the scenery became ever more interesting as we wound our way up to a misty Col de Puymorens. There a short stop yielded Pulsatilla vernalis in fruit and Trumpet Gentians. Roadside cliffs had Rock Soapwort, Saxifraga paniculata , and Elder-flowered Orchids became numerous. Now in the Parc Naturel Régional des Pyrénées Catalanes, a fascinating route down into the valley took us through Saillagouse and Mont-Louis before heading up a minor road to the village of Formigueres, our base for the first three nights. -

V praktické části byla analyzována Next-Gen data (Illumina sekvence), provedena de-novo rekonstrukce chloroplastové DNA s následným in silico i experimentálním ověřením. -
Threat and Protection Status Analysis of the Alpine Flora of the Pyrenees Isabel García Girón1 & Felipe Martínez García1
ARTICLES Mediterranean Botany ISSNe 2603-9109 http://dx.doi.org/10.5209/MBOT.60780 Threat and protection status analysis of the alpine flora of the Pyrenees Isabel García Girón1 & Felipe Martínez García1 Received: 13 October 2017 / Accepted: 31 May 2018 / Published online: 29 june 2018 Abstract. Threat and protection statuses have been analyzed for the Alpine vascular flora of the Pyrenees, i.e., species that live mainly 2,300 masl (Alpine and Subnival levels). They have been cataloged as 387 different taxa (onwards: Alpine Flora Catalogue, AFC), many of them of conservationist interest, especially in the Iberian context, due to the abundance of endemisms and relict populations. This analysis presents an added difficulty derived from this territory’s administrative situation. The region extends over three countries: Spain, France and Andorra. The first two are divided into four autonomous communities and three regions, respectively. Threat and protection statuses have been assessed according to the presence of AFC species in Red Lists (Spain: RL 2010, Andorra: RL 2008 and France: RL 2012) and catalogues of protected species. In the latter case, it has been analyzed at national level (Spain: LWSSPR-SCTS and France: LPPSNT) and regional level: Spanish autonomous communities and French regions. Andorra lacks catalogue of protected flora. Results demonstrate that, of the 387 AFC species, 46 (12%) are included in some of the national red lists: 8 Spain, 30 Andorra and 13 France. None of the 8 Spanish threatened species appears in the LWSSPR, and in France only 3 of the 13 threatened are protected. In Andorra, none. With respect to threat status: 11 are CR (2 Spain + 9 Andorra +1 France); 11 EN (1 Spain + 8 Andorra + 2 France) and 27 VU (5 Spain + 13 Andorra + 10 France). -

We investigated the main trends in plant species composition and reproductive and dispersal traits (pollen vector, diaspore appendages, dispersal of diaspores and fruit type) in central Mediterranean summits in relation to environmental factors (altitude, aspect, debris cover and slope). Based on 114 plots, with floristic and environmental data collected in the year 2016 on alpine calcareous grasslands in the central Apennines, we explored how species composition varies in relation to environmental factors using CCA (canonical correspondence analysis). Then, we analyzed the relationships among species presence, the occurrence of reproductive and dispersal traits and environmental variables. -

Reproductive Characteristics As Drivers of Alien Plant Naturalization and Invasion
Reproductive characteristics as drivers of alien plant naturalization and invasion Dissertation submitted for the degree of Doctor of Natural Sciences presented by Mialy Harindra Razanajatovo at the Faculty of Sciences Department of Biology Date of the oral examination: 12 February 2016 First referee: Prof. Dr. Mark van Kleunen Second referee: Prof. Dr. Markus Fischer Konstanzer Online-Publikations-System (KOPS) URL: http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:bsz:352-0-324483 Summary Due to human activity and global movements, many plant species have been introduced to non-native regions where they experience novel abiotic and biotic conditions. Some of these alien species manage to establish reproducing naturalized populations, and some naturalized alien species subsequently become invasive. Invasion by alien plant species can negatively affect native communities and ecosystems, but what gives the alien species an advantage under novel conditions is still not clear. Therefore, identifying the drivers of invasions has become a major goal in invasion ecology. Reproduction is crucial in plant invasions, because propagule supply is required for founding new populations, population maintenance and spread in non-native regions. Baker’s Law, referring to the superior advantage of species capable of uniparental reproduction in establishing after long distance dispersal, has received major interest in explaining plant invasions. However, previous findings regarding Baker’s Law are contradicting. Moreover, there has been an increasing interest in understanding the integration of alien plant species into native plant-pollinator networks but few studies have looked at the pollination ecology of successful (naturalized and invasive) and unsuccessful (non-naturalized and non-invasive) alien plant species. -
