A stunning, lyrical story for our times, from renowned picture book creators Claire Saxby and Jess Racklyeft. Description In the final freeze of an Antarctic winter, green tails wave across a star-full sky, as if to farewell endless nights. If this world looks empty, look closer ... Penguins trek across the ice to their winter homes. As the temperature warms, birds fly above on their long migrations. And with the advent of summer, beneath an iceberg, the sea is teeming with life. Ocean, sky, snow and ice - minute greens and giant blues - dance a delicate dance in this evocative portrayal of the life cycle of an iceberg. About the Author Claire Saxby was born in Melbourne, moved to Newcastle as a toddler and to Bougainville Island in PNG when she was ten. She attended many schools around Australia before studying in Melbourne to become a podiatrist. For several years Claire worked in community health while simultaneously writing for children. Her books fall into three main categories: animals and the worlds they live in, history, and humour. Claire's work has won several awards including CBCA Honour Book, a NSW Premier's Literary Award, a SCBWI Crystal Kite Award, an Environment Award for Children's Literature, an Educational Publishing Award and the Whitley Award multiple times. She is widely curious about just about everything and passionate about encouraging curiosity and wonder. Claire works part-time in a bookshop. Jess Racklyeft creates a variety of illustrated things - picture books, paintings, prints, pins and cards - mainly in watercolours. She works from her Melbourne home studio with her cat and dog at her feet, and occasionally one of her kids joins in too. Her work often combines collage - either on paper or digitally assembled - and lots of ink, and for every book she tries to use a new technique or process to continue to challenge and grow, book by book. Jess worked in publishing sales for almost a decade before making the leap to full-time illustration work, and since then has won several illustration accolades including two CBCA Notable Picture Book of the Year awards. Her work can now be found in bookshops and libraries across Australia and her days are happily spent in a messy studio or visiting local storytimes with Price: AU $24.99 NZ $27.99 her two young kids. • Digital Tv Policies in the Uk, Us, Australia and Italy
DIGITAL TV POLICIES IN THE UK, US, AUSTRALIA AND ITALY CINZIA COLAPINTO+ & FRANCO PAPANDREA* (Refereed) Introduction Many countries are in the process of converting their terrestrial television services from analog to digital transmission. Several different approaches have been adopted for the switch- over with different apparent results. Spectrum is a scarce resource and delays in the switch- off can have major effects on economic welfare as the spectrum tied up in analog transmission cannot be released for other uses. In this paper we examine the digital TV conversion policies and progress in the UK, USA, Australia and Italy, which have adopted different processes to achieve the desired switch-off. Each of the four countries decided to mandate the conversion of terrestrial television services from analog to digital transmission late in the last decade adopting policies with similar planned periods of transition and similar targets to complete the process. We look at the policies of each and the progress achieved to date to see what features appear to be enhancing or slowing down the achievement of the switch-over target. Digital broadcasting Digital broadcasting has several significant advantages over traditional analog transmission making its adoption a desirable policy choice by governments. For consumers, the technology allows improved audiovisual reception free of many quality defects common to analog transmission such as picture ghosting and interference between different signals. Digital transmission is also a much more efficient user of spectrum. Picture compression means that a single analog channel can accommodate at least 3-4 different television services. Furthermore, because the properties of digital transmission compensate for distortion between channels, greater intensity of reuse of channels is possible.

AUSTRALIA SEPTEMBER 2020 The Other Side of the Sky Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner A magnetic and addictive tale of star-crossed love, inexplicable magic and an impossible choice. Science and faith collide in this tale of magic, destiny and the changing truths found through love by the award-winning authors of the bestselling Starbound trilogy. Description Two worlds, two hearts and a choice that will shape their fate forever. Janus is a world divided: above the surface float the gleaming sky-cities held aloft by massive, technologically advanced engines. In the shadows beneath is an older, darker world, full of flooded byways and ancient temples governed by magic and faith. When Prince North of Ciel falls from the sky in a terrible glider malfunction, one person sees his fiery descent like a falling star: Nimh, a goddess incarnate, searching for a way to save her struggling people. His fall fulfils an ancient prophecy in the world Below, and the two strike up a wary alliance - Nimh, so that she can fulfil her destiny and save her people, and North so that he can return to the other side of the sky and take his place as heir to the throne. As North struggles to believe in the superstition and spellcraft rampant on the world's surface, Nimh discovers a terrifying truth about the prophecy binding them together: that North's fall may foretell the end of both worlds. With renegade magicians and fanatic cultists out for Nimh's blood, and the ever-looming question of whether North's fall was accident or betrayal, the two must stay alive long enough to seek the truth about both their worlds.
