One of them, including the genera Cosmoplatus Aurivillius, 1891, Cosmoplatidius Gounelle, 1911, and Deltosoma Thomson, 1864, has the prothorax as wide or almost as wide at base as elytra, carinate antennae, and cylindrical femora; the other, with prothorax much narrower at base than elytra, non-carinate antennae and clavate femora, includes Pteroplatus Buquet, 1840, Thelgetra Thomson, 1864, Aphylax Lacordaire, 1869 and Corynellus Bates, 1885. The new genus described below belongs in the first group. The types are deposited at the Museu Nacional, Universidade Federal do Rio de Jan- eiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (MNRJ), and Museu de Zoologia, Universidade de São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil (MZSP).
