Siles. Sci. Natur., 63: 111-122, 2014. Abstract: The aim of this article is to present the history and the current state of Bryjarka hill, situated in Szczawnica (the Beskid Sądecki range in southern Poland) in relation to its environmental and cultural values. Another aim of this article is to show that Bryjarka hill plays an important role in the biological, geological and cultural aspects of the region. It represents cultural significance where the traces of human activities date back to medieval times. Key words: nature values, cultural values, andesite, lichens, fungi, mosses, plants, succession, nature protection Introduction Bryjarka is a hill in Szczawnica, in the south-western part of the Beskid Sądecki Mts. (Fig. 1). It is known for its picturesque view and an iron cross placed there at the beginning of 20th century on the top of the hill (Węglarz 2011; Chrzanowska & Chrzanowski 2013). Residents, tourists and spa guests can take a 30-40 minutes walk from Dietl square up to the top of the hill following the yellow trail. In addition to sacred and tourism values of it, there are some very interesting places in respect of nature conservation (thermophilous and rare species of plants) and cultural values (andesite quarry). -

Michx are recognised in the New Zealand mycobiota, viz: P. adscendens, P. albata, P. atrostriata, P. caesia, P. crispa, P. dubia, P. erumpens, P. integrata, P. jackii, P. nubila, P. poncinsii, P. tribacia, P. trib- acoides, and P. undulata. Descriptions of each taxon are given, together with a key and details of biogeography, chemistry, distribution, and ecology. Physcia tenuisecta Zahlbr., is synonymised with Hyperphyscia adglutinata, and Physcia stellaris auct. is deleted from the New Zealand mycobiota. Physcia atrostriata, P. dubia, P. integrata, and P. nubila are recorded from New Zealand for the first time. A list of excluded taxa is appended. Lichenicolous Fungi of the Caucasus: New Species, New Records and a Second Synopsis

ZHURBENKO 1 ABSTRACT. – Ninety-four species of lichenicolous and allied fungi are reported from the Northwest Caucasus. Nanostictis caucasica on Parmelia sulcata is described as new to science. A presumably new ascomycete with hairy apothecia growing on Thamnolia vermicularis is described but not given a formal name. Acremonium pertusariae, Arthonia destruens, Cercidospora cf. rinodinae, Endococcus sendtneri, Lichenochora inconspicua, Lichenodiplis anomala, Rhizocarpon cf. ochrolechiae, Roselliniopsis tartaricola and Thelocarpon cf. sphaerosporum are newly reported for Asia and Russia, Polycoccum hymeniicola is newly reported for Russia. A first verified occurrence of Dactylospora tegularum in Russia is reported. Dactylospora athallina and Zwackhiomyces kiszkianus are reported new to Asian Russia. Cercidospora verrucosaria, Cornutispora ciliata, C. lichenicola, Dacampia hookeri, D. rufescentis, Didymocyrtis consimilis, Lichenochora caloplacae, Lichenostigma chlaroterae, Merismatium nigritellum agg., Monodictys fuliginosa, Pronectria erythrinella s. l., Scutula epiblastematica, Sphaerellothecium araneosum, Sphinctrina leucopoda, Stigmidium pseudopeltideae, S. squamariae and Tetramelas phaeophysciae are reported new to the Caucasus. Lichenochora caloplacae is reported for the first time from outside the Arctic. An unusual intrahymenial parasite of Lecanora pulicaris similar to Rhabdospora lecanorae is discussed. Bryoplaca is reported as a new host genus for Merismatium nigritellum agg., Cetrelia for Cornutispora lichenicola and Echinothecium reticulatum, Flavoparmelia for Cornutispora ciliata, and Pseudevernia for Lichenoconium cargillianum. A synopsis of 248 species from 98 genera of lichenicolous fungi and three species from two additional genera of allied fungi so far known from the Caucasus is presented and analyzed. -

College Rd., Wilmington, NC 28403, USA <[email protected]> Abstract: Lichens of relict penguin colonies and sites affected by active penguin colonies were investigated in Victoria Land, Ross Sea sector, continental Antarctica. A total of 17 coastal sites, seven in northern and ten in southern Victoria Land, have been investigated across 7° of latitude from 71° to 78°S. Altogether 40 taxa of lichens have been identified. Four of the recorded species are new to the Antarctic – Caloplaca erecta, C. soropelta, C. tominii and Physcia tenella; two species are new to the Victoria Land area – Lecania nylanderiana and Lecanora polytropa. The first lichen records from Beaufort Island are also provided. Data presented here expand the knowledge on the occurrence, diversity and distribution of Victoria Land lichens. Descriptions accompany notes on known distribution, substrates, and chemistry and comparisons with morphologically similar taxa. Rhizocarpon (Rhizocarpaceae) contains more than 200 crustose species (Miadlikowska et al. 2014, McCarthy & Elix 2014), which are found on siliceous rocks in montane and boreal habitats and (rarely) on substrates in wet or dry (sub)tropical areas and hot-arid regions (McCarthy & Elix 2014). Aspicilia (Hymeneliaceae) contains approximately 230 species (Nordin et al. 2010), while Lobothallia (Megasporaceae) has 12 lichen taxa (Sharnoff 2014). Thirty-eight taxa of Aspicilia, three taxa of Lobothallia, and 30 taxa of Rhizocarpon have thus far been reported from Turkey.
