The people who sit in darkness have seen a great light; on those dwelling in a land overshadowed by death, light has arisen. Celebrant: The Lord be with you. Assembly: And with your spirit. Celebrant: A reading from the holy Gospel according to N. Assembly: Glory to you, O Lord. G OSPEL Mark 1:21-28 H OMILY P ROFESSIO N OF F AITH I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, (All bow during these two lines.) and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. G E N ERAL I N TERCESSIO N S Response: Lord, hear our prayer. LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST P REPARATIO N OF THE G IFTS (Choir) God Is My Strong Salvation Halsey Stevens (1908-1989) God is my strong salvation, what foe have I to fear? In darkness and temptation my light, my help is near. Though hosts encamp around me, firm in the fight I stand; What terror can confound me with God at my right hand? Place on the Lord reliance, my heart with courage wait; His truth be thine affiance when faint and desolate; His might thy heart shall strengthen, his love thy joy increase. Thy day shall mercy lengthen, the Lord will give thee peace. (James Montgomery, 1822; from Psalm 24) P REFACE Celebrant: Pray, brethren, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God, the almighty Father. Assembly: May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name, for our good and the good of all his holy Church. P REFACE D IALO G UE Celebrant: The Lord be with you. Assembly: And with your spirit. Celebrant: Lift up your hearts. Assembly: We lift them up to the Lord. Celebrant: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. Assembly: It is right and just. A N A CT OF S P I R I T UA L C OMMU N IO N My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen. C OMMU N IO N A N TIPHO N Let your face shine on your servant. Save me in your merciful love. O Lord, let me never be put to shame, for I call on you.
