I am selling the cream of my collection.” Eric Clapton, February 2004 Crossroads Guitar Auction Eric Clapton and Friends for the Crossroads Centre June 24, 2004 New York – On June 24, 1999, Christie’s New York organized A Selection of Eric Clapton’s Guitars ~ In Aid of the Crossroads Centre, a sale that became legendary overnight. Exactly five years later, on June 24, 2004, Christie’s will present the sequel when a group of 56 guitars, described by Eric Clapton as “the cream of my collection,” as well as instruments donated by musician friends such as Pete Townshend, will be offered. Featuring iconic instruments such as ‘Blackie’ and the cherry-red 1964 Gibson ES-335, Crossroads Guitar Auction ~ Eric Clapton and Friends for the Crossroads Centre, promises to be a worthy successor to the seminal 1999 sale. The proceeds of the sale will benefit the Crossroads Centre in Antigua. View metadata, citation and similar papers at core.ac.uk brought to you by CORE provided by Glasgow School of Art: RADAR 'I Spy': Mike Leigh in the Age of Britpop (A Critical Memoir) David Sweeney During the Britpop era of the 1990s, the name of Mike Leigh was invoked regularly both by musicians and the journalists who wrote about them. To compare a band or a record to Mike Leigh was to use a form of cultural shorthand that established a shared aesthetic between musician and filmmaker. Often this aesthetic similarity went undiscussed beyond a vague acknowledgement that both parties were interested in 'real life' rather than the escapist fantasies usually associated with popular entertainment. This focus on 'real life' involved exposing the ugly truth of British existence concealed behind drawing room curtains and beneath prim good manners, its 'secrets and lies' as Leigh would later title one of his films. I know this because I was there. Here's how I remember it all: Jarvis Cocker and Abigail's Party To achieve this exposure, both Leigh and the Britpop bands he influenced used a form of 'real world' observation that some critics found intrusive to the extent of voyeurism, particularly when their gaze was directed, as it so often was, at the working class. Jarvis Cocker, lead singer and lyricist of the band Pulp -exemplars, along with Suede and Blur, of Leigh-esque Britpop - described the band's biggest hit, and one of the definitive Britpop songs, 'Common People', as dealing with "a certain voyeurism on the part of the middle classes, a certain romanticism of working class culture and a desire to slum it a bit". -

PRESS RELEASE PLACE: Jakarta DATE: 17 September 2016 Voice of Refugees Fundraising Concert– Joining Hands to Benefit Refugees Worldwide Jakarta, 17 September 2016 – Concerned business leaders and celebrities are joining hands with humanitarians and the general public tonight to help provide a better future for refugees everywhere through the Voices of Refugees concert. The event is being taped live at the Ciputra Artpreneur this evening and will be aired by Metro TV on 24 September, thanks to the charitable efforts of the Media Group. Ms. Noor Sabah, wife of the Norwegian Ambassador in Indonesia is involved as an organizer and patron of the concert. This marks the third year she has been helping to put together similar benefit concerts for humanitarian causes in Indonesia. In addition, this year’s Voice of Refugees concert has received the generous support of prominent Indonesian corporations such as Tahir Foundation, and the Media Group. Funds that are mobilized in connection with the concert will help UNHCR meet the urgent humanitarian and other needs of refugees, including shelter, health care, education and social services. Everyone who wants to help is encouraged to donate through UNHCR’s Indonesia Website at donate.unhcr.org. Donations can also be made at www.nobodyleftoutside.org, which would contribute towards UNHCR’s campaign to provide shelter for at least 2 million refugees by 2018. Donations are needed now more than ever as the world is witnessing a record number of people being forced from their homes due to war and persecution. By the end of 2015, over 65 million people were forcibly displaced around the world. -

Planning Guide for Funeral Liturgies at Saint Joseph’s Church _____________, 20__ – Funeral or Memorial Liturgy for the Soul of __________________________ (Month and Day) (Year) (Full Name of Deceased) The Funeral Liturgy is the central liturgical celebration of the Christian community for the deceased. There are two forms of the Funeral Liturgy: the Funeral Mass and the Funeral Liturgy outside Mass. During the Funeral Liturgy the community gathers with the family and friends of the deceased to give praise and thanks to God for Christ’s victory over sin and death, to commend the deceased to God’s tender mercy and compassion, and to seek strength in the proclamation of the paschal mystery. The Pastor or another designated minister will assist the family in understanding this planning guide and selecting readings and music appropriate for the Funeral or Memorial Liturgy. General guidelines for music in Eucharistic celebrations apply equally to the Funeral or Memorial Liturgy. The prayerful participation of the assembly—whether in silence or in song—affirms the value of praying for the soul of the deceased and gives strength and consolation to them. Sacred music is an integral part to the celebration of the Funeral Liturgy. The selection of music must be liturgical and express our Christian belief in the gift of the resurrection. Religious hymns should speak to the mysteries of our Faith regarding death and resurrection. While popular music may warm the hearts of those who are left behind, it must never replace sacred music, and is not suitable for a Funeral Liturgy. Such music is better suited to be played during the visitation or during a luncheon following Mass, if applicable. -
