IDENTIFICACION´ DE AREAS´ DE ENDEMISMO EN EL NORTE DE SUR AMERICA´ CON ENFASIS´ EN COLOMBIA Juan David Escobar Prieto Universidad del Valle, Apartado Aereo 25360, Cali, Colombia. correo electronico:´ juan [email protected] Elizabeth Jimenez´ Universidad del Valle, Apartado Aereo 25360, Cali, Colombia. correo electronico:´ [email protected] Patricia Chacon´ de Ulloa Universidad del Valle, Apartado Aereo 25360, Cali, Colombia. correo electronico:´ [email protected] RESUMEN Los patrones de diversidad biologica,´ distribucion´ geografica´ y procesos historicos,´ son elementos fundamentales para la identificacion´ de areas´ de endemismo, estas areas´ a su vez son importantes para la realizacion´ de estudios biogeograficos´ y la priorizacion´ de areas´ de conservacion.´ Debi- do a la complejidad de la geograf´ıa, clima y edafolog´ıa de Colombia, el estudio de sus patrones biogeograficos´ basados en los biomas y diversidad biotica´ podr´ıa no ser suficiente. El presente estudio identifico´ areas´ de endemismo en el norte de Sur America´ haciendo enfasis´ en Colombia, utilizando insectos como grupo focal. Para los analisis´ se utilizo´ el algoritmo heur´ıstico de NDM y el analisis´ de redes NAM. Ademas´ se realizo´ un analisis´ de parsimonia de endemismo (PAE) para jerarquizar aquellas areas´ obtenidas mediante NDM. Con ambas metodolog´ıas se obtuvo un total de 42 areas´ de endemismo y la jerarquizacion´ resulto´ en nueve clados soportados por al menos dos taxa y seis clados no informativos. Las zonas de mayor grado de endemicidad resultaron ser el Choco´ biogeografico´ y las cordilleras de los Andes, posiblemente como resultado de la alta pluviosidad y las condiciones diversas de alta montana˜ respectivamente. -

WILLMOTT Dept. of Entomology and Nematology, University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida 32611, USA ABSTRACT.- Type specimens of the extremely rare and/or poorly known species in the Argyrogrammana amalfreda (Staudinger, [1887]) compl( (group "Bariniformes" of Stichel, 1911, 1930) are illustrated, with notes on taxonomy and distribution. In addition, five new species are describe from eastern Ecuador. Phylogeny of the Riodinid Butterfly Subtribe Theopeina (Lepidoptera: Riodinidae: Nymphidiini)

HALL Department of Systematic Biology±Entomology, National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC, U.S.A. Abstract. The almost exclusively Neotropical butterfly family Riodinidae is poorly represented in both ecological and systematic studies of Lepidoptera. A comparative morphological study of all seventy-five species in subtribe Theopeina (tribe Nymphidiini) yielded 104 characters, predominantly from wing pattern, male and female genitalia, and abdominal structures. All morphological char- acters and adults representing the range of wing pattern variation are illustrated. Phylogenetic analysis of the data produced a large number of most parsimonious cladograms, but the strict consensus of these, both when using equal weights and after successive weighting, is well resolved and the majority of terminal clades have high character and branch support. Theopeina is found to consist of five mono- phyletic genera, Protonymphidia, Archaeonympha, Calicosama, Behemothia and Theope ( Parnes and Dinoplotis), with the largest genus Theope containing thirteen monophyletic species groups, which are delineated to facilitate a discussion of broad evolutionary patterns in this morphologically diverse subtribe. Two females laid eggs on the old leaves of an unidentified Triplaris sp. (Polygonaceae), a myrmecophytic plant typically known as ‘Triplaria’ or ‘novice’ tree, inhabited by aggressive ‘taxi’ ants of the genus Pseudomyrmex sp. (Hymenoptera: Formicidae). These observations suggest that M. grandis caterpillars live associated with one of the most harmful types of Amazon ant-plant symbiosis. Constantino2, Gabriel Rodríguez3 Resumen Este trabajo considera una revisión de las especies y subespecies pertenecientes al genero Necyria Westwood, 1851 que se han encontrado en el territorio colombiano. Se registran a N. bellona con cinco subespecies y a N. duellona con dos subespecies reconocidas para Colombia, una de ellas N. duellona beltiana (Hew.) como nuevo registro para la fauna de este país. Se incluyen además algunas observaciones biológicas y de distribución basadas en la captura de material que se encuentra depositado en varias colecciones colombianas. STUDIES ON THE GENUS NECYRIA WESTWOOD, 1851 IN COLOMBIA (LEPIDOPTERA: RIODINIDAE) Abstract A review of the species and subspecies belonging to the genus Necyria Westwood, 1851 in Colombian territory is considered in this article. N. bellona was contains five subspecies, and N. duellona two subspecies, one of them being N. duellona beltiana (Hew.) a new record in Colombia. Biological features and distribution ranges are included based on the material deposited in Colombian collections. Key words Colombia, genitals, species, subspecies, Necyria, records. INTRODUCCIÓN rosiguiendo con la revisión de géneros de la familia Riodinidae conocidas en Colombia por los presentes autores (SALAZAR & CONSTANTINO, 2000; PSALAZAR, 2006), este trabajo tiene el propósito de estudiar las especies de Necyria Westwood registradas en el país mediante literatura de nueva o vieja data, y con material depositado en algunas colecciones nacionales. -
