UP-FRONT NEWS

Dear Friend, Dear Staff Member,

As of 7 November 2011, much of the traffic in Waidhofen passes through the new Buchenberg Tunnel. The new tunnel, at a length of 1.5 km the largest on Lower ’s state-managed roads, was fitted with the very latest safety equipment. Forster, competent producer of traffic engineering products, naturally covers this segment as well and is known for delivering fully developed solutions, and has been asked to supply suitable products for this major project. For more details please read the article in this issue of Forster Aktuell.

Other contributions in this issue serve to demonstrate that when it comes to product variety, Forster goes from strength to strength. Many interesting solutions in the advertising and signage segment, as well as for noise barriers and shelving systems could be implemented by us together with our clients. The Forster Group always sees its customers as its partners in arriving at a solution to a joint problem – from the first contact to the finished product.

The year has come to a close and we can all look back at an eventful period. Con- sequently I want to thank all our staff members for their great cooperation, their inputs and achievements throughout the past year. INFORMATION CAMPAIGN FOR THE NEW EMERGENCY CORRIDOR Clearing the path with Forster

Starting on 1 January 2012, motorists on Austrian motorways and roads of at least two lanes need to know how to pull over and form a make-shift emergency corridor in order to make way for emergency vehicles. The TBWA advertising agency created an information campaign for ASFINAG, and Forster was awarded the contract to produce the posters and gantry banners.

Along the motorways, Forster fitted advertising hoardings managed by the ASFINAG motorway operator, KFV road safety lobby and ÖAMTC automo- bile club with high-quality reflective 3M film. Using our own toner system, we are able to adjust the level of reflection to the situation so that posters remain excellently visible even in bad weather. The post- ers also have to meet stringent requirements with DISPLAYS FOR WEITZER PARKETT regard to their service life as they need to be attach- able down to a temperature of –5°C. Parquetry producer Weitzer Par- kett ordered up LED-illuminated signs made from deep-drawn plas- tic components to obtain a proper ambience in the many showrooms HIER GILT operated by the flooring market leader from .

The illuminated panels were screen-printed in multiple colours from the back to protect the print from external wear. A built-in dim- mer allows continuously variable regulation of the light intensity. Long service life and low electricity consumption are further advan- tages of the product.

Forster created information signs and game platforms for the Ötscher-Tormäuer nature park in the tourism region. The aluminiumm panels were digitally imprinted and given a transparent powder-coating to ensure that they would be weather-proof to the maximum possi- ble extent. At the customer’s request, some game platforms were covered with an antigraffiti layer. All figures and special shapes for the games were laser-cut.

NO MORE EXCUSES FOR LATE STUDENTS Routing system on the Würzburg campus

An all-encompassing informa- tion and routing system was delivered to Würzburg’s Julius- Maximilian University by Forster, for its Hubland Nord campus. The system helps students find their way through the changes brought about by the conversion works.

Altogether 56 upright pillars direct walkers through the area. Another 19 horizontal pillars identify build- ings. The scope of delivery in- cluded not just the production and installation of the signs but also the making of the on-site founda- tions. The signs themselves are made of aluminium of a strength of 4 mm and powder-coated in a matte shading, bolted onto their base. To account for a building depth of 60 mm, the substructure is made of steel, galvanised and paint- coated, in this way complying with structural requirements. The pillars are inscribed with adhesive letters and digital prints made of high-quality 3M film.

Part of the concept Ú Responding to the development and conver- sion of buildings on the university site, the State Building Office of Würzburg was prompted to place an order for a new information and routing scheme. NOISE BARRIERS MADE BY COLBERG & FORSTER FOR DEUTSCHE BAHN Audible quality of living for railway neighbours Forster has developed practicable low-cost noise screens for all applications along railway routes, thereby fulfilling all requirements of Deutsche Bahn.

One of the projects resulting from this achievement is the delivery and installation, by Colberg & Forster, of noise barriers in Hann.Münden. The panels protect people living in over 90 housing units on either side of the Hannover–Kassel railway line against much of the noise emitted by passing trains. The colouring was tailored to the criteria specified by Hann.Münden. The walls run to a height of two to three metres and are highly absorbent on one or both sides. In view of local considerations, the barriers had to be installed from the track side on weekends and dur- ing nights.

Thanks to its quiet green tone the noise barrier blends in with its background.

HILDESHEIM–GROSS GLEIDINGEN RAILWAY LINE More speed – less noise

The single-track line, part of the long-distance route from Frank- furt to Berlin, is extended to two tracks, which will accelerate train speeds to 160 km/hr. Colberg & Forster provides the requisite noise barriers – high-absorbent elements with an anti-graffiti coating. Railway traffic continues on the existing track while exten- sion works are carried on. The project is scheduled to be com- pleted by December 2012.
