La vihuela Ya en fue acrecentando sus medidas a través de los años en cuanto al tamaño de su caja como el de su mástil, llegando a tener a principios del 1700 unos 74 cm de cuerda y 10 trastes. En 1870 se le incorpora la sexta cuerda ( ya no en pares ) y con la guitarra diseñada en 1882 por Antonio Torres queda establecida la morfología que adoptara la guitarra clásica sufriendo muy leves cambios hasta nuestros días. 1902- Orville Gibson creo en Michigan la GIBSON MANDOLIN – GUITAR MANUFACTURING CO. 1908- Se crea la primera guitarra acústica GIBSON STYLE O que a su vez incorpora el golpeador inclinado ( se conformaría en característico de la empresa). 1926- La NATIONAL diseña su STYLE O generando de esta manera la primera guitarra resonante. Consistía en un cuerpo de madera en el que se insertaba un cono metálico con distintas caladuras que actuaban como amplificador dentro de la misma, logrando un mayor volumen en cuanto a sonido. -

Restoration of Regal Archtop Guitar Performed by Ron Cook January, 2004 For Michele O’Brien of Salinas, California Background The Regal name has been around since around 1896, but since 1900, when the original owner, Emil Wulschner, died, it has been owned by many companies, including Lyon & Healy and Harmony. Regal is best known for distributing Dobro guitars in the 1930's. (John Dopyera and his two brothers started the National Resophonic Company in the '20's. John split later and created the Dobro name and instruments, marketed by Regal.) The f-hole (Jazz) acoustic guitar was developed by Gibson in the '30's. No his- torical references note the actual date Regal started building f-hole acoustics, but it was between 1930 and 1940. They were built up into the 1960's by the Harmony Company. Regals are still made, but only resonator guitars--and they're now built in Korea and distributed by Saga Musical Instruments of San Francisco. John Dopyera and his Dobro Company also built electric guitars, f-hole and resonator, since 1933, for his own company and for Regal. It’s possible Dobro built this particular Regal archtop since there are no serial marks or internal labels, which Dopyera stopped inserting around 1938 after he acquired all rights to the National Guitar Company (his brother’s company). I used a flexible mirror and light to check the interi- or for any problems. I found none internally. I also didn’t find any labels, or penciled or stamped marks. Valuation This instrument is hard to set a value on since very few Regal archtop guitars have come on the market, and those were post-war instruments (1945 to 1960). -

Matthew William Hill ABSTRACT This thesis examines the rise of the electric guitar in the United States – arguably the most iconic and successful musical instrument of the 20th century – and the role of George Beauchamp in its invention and development. It focuses on Beauchamp's invention of the electromagnetic pickup, which is the component that makes an electric guitar an electric guitar. The research is based on examination of surviving instruments as well as archival research. An extensive contextual background is given regarding the historical development of electrical musical instruments in general and electric and electrified stringed instruments in particular. -

Mas sobretudo podemos falar do rock que também ganhou público através do cinema nOite-americano da 3 década de 50 , transformando-se em um produto altamente consumido. O rock ajudou a mudar o comportamcnt.o social da juventude norte-americana a partir da segunda metade dos anos 50 e boa parte da juventude oc id ental do s anos 60, revolucionou costumes profundamente arraigados: A maneira de vestir, o comportamento sexual e o consumo de drogas são al guns exemplos, mas também ostentava-se uma rebeldia que para muitos não tinha causa. Como toda revolução tem seus líderes esta também tinha os seus, eram os atares jovens de Hollywood e os integrantes desses grupos musicais que começavam a ganhar cada vez mai s espaço nos meios de comunicação tocando o novo ritmo. Os integrantes desse grupos que mais influenciaram a juventude foram os cantores (Elvis Presley por exemplo) e em segundo pl ano os guitarristas (Chuck Berry outro exemplo). -
