For over a decade and a half, the celebrated Tippett Quartet has delighted critics and audiences alike with its animated , virtuosic performances, and its inspired and attractive programming. The quartet has performed at the BBC Proms and numerous festivals throughout the UK and abroad, and has recently toured Europe, Canada and Mexico. The quartet regularly appears at Kings Place, Queen Elizabeth Hall and Purcell Room at the Southbank Centre and Bridgewater Hall and frequently performs on BBC Radio 3. Alongside a busy touring schedule, the Tippett Quartet pursues a keen interest in educational work with both schools and universities and is currently Ens emble in Residence at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge University .

Their broad and diverse repertoire highlights the quartet’s unique versatility. They are equally at home with the giants of the classical world; Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven, as they are w ith the great Hollywood composers; Bernard Herrmann (Signum Records ), Miklós Rózsa (NAXOS) and Eric Korngold (NAXOS).

Their impressive catalogue of over twenty releases has not only topped the classical charts but has also entered the pop charts and recei ved universal critical acclaim . The quartet has recorded for NAXOS, EMI Classics , Naxos, Classic FM, Signum Records , Guild, Real World Records, Dutton Epoch and Toccata Classics .

The Tippett Q uartet has given numerous world and UK premières of works by c omposers including John Adams, Howard Goodall and Stephen Dodgson . This year saw the quartet rediscover Gustav Holst’s Fantasy on British Folk Songs which, with the help of the eminent musicologist Roderick Swanston, they were able to complete and give a w orld première performance of on BBC Radio 3. They have worked with Peter Maxwell !Davies for a performance of his Quartet No. 9 at the Southbank Centre , with Anthony Payne on his Quartet No. 1 for a live BBC broadcast from Spitalfields Festival, and Hugh Wo od on his String Quartet No. 3 at the Presteigne Festival . They have had the pleasure of collaborating with inspirational soloists such as Kathryn Stott, Craig Ogden, Stephanie Gonley, Lawrence Power, Melvyn Tan, Nick Van Bloss, Julian Bliss and Ashley Was s.

The Tippett Quartet has performed with the Royal Ballet at Covent Garden and has premièr ed a newly written film score for Alfred Hitchcock’s 1927 silent film classic ‘The Lodger’. This year also sees them collaborating with some of the UK’s finest jazz musicians with the launch of their ‘Close to You’ project – a tribute to the album that made with the Hollywood String Quartet. 2014 sees the release of a recording of Lutosławski and Panufnik Quartets for NAXOS , which as already been well received by critics .
