Disease Surveillance Health Education Typhoid Vaccination Water Quality Surveillance Disease Surveillance system in Sri Lanka Typhoid is a notifiable disease under the routine disease surveillance system Every medical practitioner or person professing to treat diseases, who attends on any person suffering from any disease in the notifiable diseases list shall notify the relevant Medical Officer of Health(MOH). Disease Surveillance system in Sri Lanka... Health Districts in Sri Lanka are divided in to Medical Officer of Health (MOH) areas. These MOH areas are headed by one or more medical doctors. There are Public Health Inspectors (PHII) attached to the MOH office, and these PHII carry out disease control activities under the guidance of the MOH Control Strategies adopted in Sri Lanka.. Health Education Typhoid vaccine Inactivated Whole Cell Typhoid vaccine was manufactured in Sri Lanka for over four decades before stopping in 2004 Both injectable Vi capsular polysaccharide vaccine and Ty21a oral vaccine are registered . A total of 268,200 injectable Typhoid vaccines doses were distributed by MoH from 2010- 2014 Sri Lanka is currently using Vi capsular polysaccharide vaccine Typhoid vaccine.. Typhoid vaccine is being administered to Food handlers Pilgrims who visit areas with high Typhoid Fever incidence. Internally displaced persons living in temporary shelters. Close contacts of typhoid patients ( eg. family members) Children getting frequent episodes of diarrhoea (eg. more than 4 attacks in preceding six month) Communities that do not have access to safe water. Health care workers associate with typhoid patients. (ii) North Western Province Canal Project Construction of 96 km of new and upgraded canals, including a new 940 m tunnel and two new 25 m tall dams will be constructed under NWPCP to transfer water from the Dambulu Oya and existing Nalanda and Wemedilla Reservoirs to North Western Province. In recent years, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of Japan have been the major development partners in water supply. Overall, several bilateral development partners are involved in this sector, including (i) Japan (providing support for Kandy, Colombo, towns north of Colombo, and Eastern Province), (ii) Australia (Ampara), (iii) Denmark (Colombo, Kandy, and Nuwaraeliya), (iv) France (Trincomalee), (v) Belgium (Kolonna–Balangoda), (vi) the United States of America (Badulla and Haliela), and (vii) the Republic of Korea (Hambantota). Details of projects assisted by development partners are in the table below. The World Bank completed a major community water supply and sanitation project in 2010.     BASIC POPULATION INFORMATION ON JAFFNA DISTRICT – 2007 Preliminary Report Based on Special Enumeration – 2007 Department of Census and Statistics June 2008 Foreword The Department of Census and Statistics (DCS), carried out a special enumeration in Eastern province and in Jaffna district in Northern province. The objective of this enumeration is to provide the necessary basic information needed to formulate development programmes and relief activities for the people. This preliminary publication for Jaffna district has been compiled from the reports obtained from the District based on summaries prepared by enumerators and supervisors. A final detailed publication will be disseminated after the computer processing of questionnaires. This preliminary release gives some basic information for Jaffna district, such as population by divisional secretary’s division, urban/rural population, sex, age (under 18 years and 18 years and over) and ethnicity. Data on displaced persons due to conflict or tsunami are also included. Some important information which is useful for regional level planning purposes are given by Grama Niladhari Divisions. This enumeration is based on the usual residents of households in the district. These figures should be regarded as provisional. I wish to express my sincere thanks to the staff of the department and all other government officials and others who worked with dedication and diligence for the successful completion of the enumeration.
