SERIES CONCERTS Lully, Lulla: Christmas with TENET Claudio Monteverdi’S Selva Morale E Spirituale Gombert & Poulenc
10 Dear Friends and Supporters, We made it to 10 years! And what a decade it’s been. These pages commemorate a decade of artistic activities for TENET Vocal Artists. They represent a wealth of time, talent, and love spent bringing high quality vocal music to the people of New York City and beyond. There were too many fond memories to include here, but this gives you a taste of our efforts as we look forward to the next 10 years. We began as TENET in the fall of 2009 when I was named artistic director. Born of a desire “to hold on” to something “we believe in” (definitions of tenet), I focused my efforts on project-based programming of early music and I brought the Green Mountain Project into the organization’s fold. Ensemble highlights (2009–2019): • 225+ musicians • 200+ concerts • 6 recordings • glowing reviews from major publications • 15x budget increase • prestigious foundation awards • local, state, and national government arts grants When asked how TENET has achieved its success, I talk about our community. Many friends serve on TENET’s board of directors and board of advisors. Fans who donate and purchase concert tickets. Church leaders allow us to perform in their sacred spaces. Volunteers usher, and host artists and host house concerts. Collaborating ensembles take risks with us. Videographers, audio engineers, photographers, bankers, insurance agents, bookkeepers, wine sellers, administrators, grant writers, media specialists and reviewers, website builders, ticket vendors, taxi drivers. Together, our work touches many lives in this great city. Most of all, I attribute TENET Vocal Artists’ success to the talented musicians who have dedicated their lives to creating music with the hope of making the world a more joyous place.
