Nature's Wonderful Colours Magdalena KonečnáMagdalena Sedláčková • Jana • Štěpánka Sekaninová Nature is teeming with incredible colours. But have you ever wondered how the colours green, yellow, pink or blue might taste or smell? What could they sound like? Or what would they feel like if you touched them? Nature’s colours are so wonderful ColoursIN NATURE and diverse they inspired people to use the names of plants, animals and minerals when labelling all the nuances. Join us on Magdalena Konečná • Jana Sedláčková • Štěpánka Sekaninová a journey to discover the twelve most well-known colours and their shades. You will learn that the colours and elements you find in nature are often closely connected. Will you be able to find all the links in each chapter? Last but not least, if you are an aspiring artist, take our course at the end of the book and you’ll be able to paint as exquisitely as nature itself does! COLOURS IN NATURE COLOURS albatrosmedia.eu b4u publishing Prelude Who painted the trees green? Well, Nature can do this and other magic. Nature abounds in colours of all shades. Long, long ago people began to name colours for plants, animals and minerals they saw them in, so as better to tell them apart. But as time passed, ever more plants, animals and minerals were discovered that reminded us of colours already named. So we started to use the names for shades we already knew to name these new natural elements. What are these names? Join us as we look at beautiful colour shades one by one – from snow white, through canary yellow, ruby red, forget-me-not blue and moss green to the blackest black, dark as the night sky.

  • Silver Heights Farm
SILVER HEIGHTS FARM Certified Organic, Open Pollinated Unusual & Heirloom Vegetable Plants DEDICATED TO THE PRESERVATION OF HEIRLOOM PLANTS 2008 Catalog Featuring varieties to dazzle the gardener’s imagination Multitudes of Tomatoes, Tomatillos, & Ground Cherries Peppers & Eggplants galore Glorious Cucumbers, Gherkins, & melons Other funky vegetables 1 BECOME A SEED SAVER AND HELP PROTECT OUR AGRI-CULTURAL HERITAGE TOMATO SEEDS CAN BE SAVED FOR 4 TO 10 YEARS WITHOUT MUCH DIFFICULTY. SO SAVE A FEW SEEDS OF YOUR FAVORITE VARIETY THIS YEAR The flower structure of most tomatoes is set up for a very high rate of self-pollination. Possible cross- pollination can happen by exposure to the “currant” types of tomatoes, L. pimpinellifolium. Potato-leafed varieties and the double flowered beefsteak types are also possible sources of cross-pollination. With currant types, potato-leafed varieties and double-flowered varieties, isolation is important due to elongated styles and exposed stigmas. Caging is useful when many of these easily cross-pollinated varieties are planted. Wind helps with good pollination of tomato flowers. The agitation of breezes can be enhanced with a daily gentle shaking of the tomato plants, especially when the plants are grown indoors. Do not select early fruits of tomatoes for seed saving. Instead, select tomatoes formed after the initial cold of spring is gone and the tomato plant is in good production. Also avoid fruits from diseased plants, as diseases can be passed from year to year through seeds. Choose fully ripe fruits that have the shape, color or other characteristics you are interested in. Cut your chosen tomatoes across their “equator” and scoop all the gel and seeds into a container.

Tomatoes Henderson's Pink Ponderosa Tomato 87 days. Huge size, some over 2 lbs., a meaty pink-red beefsteak introduced by Peter Henderson & Co. in 1891, and the most famous of their varieties. Their 1903 catalog said "Quality Beyond Praise, Rich and meaty-sliced. Thick and delicious canned." Still popular with gardeners. Yoder's German Yellow Tomato 80-90 days. This regular-leafed variety produces large yellow/pale orange beefsteak type fruit. Fairly crack resistant and can grow as large as 1 pound. Good flavor. From Amish lady Mrs. Yoder, whose family grew this tomato for over half a century in Tennessee and Kentucky Costoluto Genovese Tomato The fluted, old Italian favorite that has been around since the early 19th century. Fruit are rather flattened and quite attractive with their deep ribbing. This variety is a standard in Italy for both fresh eating and preserving; known for its intensely flavorful, deep red flesh. This variety has also became very popular with chefs in this country. Douchoua Pepper Tomato Graceful bell-pepper-shaped fruits, about the size of large plums, have a lovely cream white to yellow color. Flavor is good with just the right amount of acid, but fruit is not super juicy, being firm and quite crunchy, refreshing and delicious. Fruit very free of imperfections. The overall yield is strong. It would make an attractive and unique specialty market variety. Duggin’s White 80 days. Parchment-white tomatoes are extra smooth and beautiful. Renowned for their sweet, citrus taste that is richer and more complex than many white types.

  • Pain Management
Calming Color Visualization To begin, make yourself comfortable. Adjust your clothing as needed and assume a comfortable position. First, before the calming color relaxation begins, notice how your body feels in this moment. Passively pay attention to the state of your body right now. Do not try to change anything, simply notice how your body and mind feel. Feel your body begin to relax slightly, as your shoulders drop a little lower.... your jaw loosens so your teeth are not touching.... and your eyelids start to feel heavy. Take a deep breath in.... hold it.... and slowly breathe out.... Now just notice your breathing. Your body knows how much air you need. Notice with interest how your breath goes in and out. Feel the pause after you inhale and before you exhale.... and the pause before drawing another breath. Allow your body to relax and your mind to focus on the calming color relaxation. Allow the relaxation to occur naturally.... allow and observe.... Create a picture in your mind of the color red. Imagine red of all shades....You might picture red objects, a red landscape, or just a solid color.....Imagine all of the different tones of red.... roses.... bricks.... apples....sunset....Enjoy the color red. Now allow the color you are imagining to change to orange. Picture the color orange.... infinite shades of orange.... flowers.... pumpkins .... carrots....Fill the entire visual field of your mind's eye with the color orange. Enjoy the color orange. Visualize the color yellow. See in your imagination all the various shades of yellow.
