He got his early education from his father Shaikh Abdul Ahad (R.A) a well-known Muslim mystic and a great scholar of Islamic sciences. He further proceeded to Sialkot, west Punjab and was taught higher books of Quran, Hadith, Fiqah, logic and other Islamic sciences by Shaikh Yaoob Kashmiri and Mullah Kamal Kashmiri. Mullah Abdul Hakim Sialkoti, a great writer of Islamic books and the chief justice of combined India during the reign of Shah Jahan was also one of his class fellows. Later on Mullah Abdul Hakim Sialkoti wrote a book (Dalayl-ul-Tajdeed) to pay rich and sincere tributes to Shaikh Ahmad Sirhindi and first time proclaimed Shaikh Ahmad as Mujadad Alf Sani (the reformer for second millennium). Shaikh Ahmad Sirhindi, after completion of education visited the court of Akbar, the great, and met Abu-al-Fazal & Faizi who were the religious patrons of the court of Akbar and protagonists of Din-e-Akbari. Hazrat Mujadad Alaf Sani took this adverse condition of Islam and Islamic values to heart and decided to utilize all of his energies for the reformation and revival of real Islamic teachings and values of Quran-o-Sunnah. -

Conclusion The first chapter is a historical survey of the Islamisation of Kashmir. It starts with the conversion of the people of Kashmir to Islamic world-view and value- system in the early 14th century A.D., at the hands of Syed Sharaf al-Din Abdur Rahman Bulbul Shah. The pioneering role of Mir Syed Ali Hamadani in converting the people of Kashmir to Islamic way of life is prominently featured in this chapter. The role of other sufis especially that of Mir Muhammad Hamadani is highlighted in this chapter as well. The role played by local sufis and Rishis in the stabilisation of Islamic way of life in Kashmir is also brought out. The leading role of Shaikh Nur al-Din Wali and Shaikh Hamza Makhdum features prominently in this regard. The historical significance of such leading lights of Kashmir as Shaikh Yaqub Sarfi, Mulla Muhammad Mohsin Fani, Mulla Kamal Kashmiri and Mulla Jamal also features in this chapter. -

Feeley, Chair Since the Islamic resurgence of the 1970s, many Muslim postcolonial countries have established and empowered constitutional courts to declare laws conflicting with shariʿa as unconstitutional. The central question explored in this dissertation is whether and to what extent constitutional doctrine developed in shariʿa review is contingent on the ruling regime or represents lasting trends in interpretations of shariʿa. Using the case of Pakistan, this dissertation contends that the long-term discursive trends in shariʿa are determined in the religio-political space and only reflected in state law through the interaction of shariʿa politics, regime politics, and judicial politics. The research is based on materials gathered during fieldwork in Pakistan and datasets of Federal Shariat Court and Supreme Court cases and judges. In particular, the dissertation offers a political-institutional framework to study shariʿa review in a British postcolonial court system through exploring the role of professional and scholar judges, the discretion of the chief justice, the system of judicial appointments and tenure, and the political structure of appeal that combine to make courts agents of the political regime. -

Sharia 1 Sharia . šarīʿah, IPA: [ʃaˈriːʕa], "way" or "path") is the code of conduct or religious law of Islamﺷﺮﻳﻌﺔ :Sharīʿah (Arabic Most Muslims believe Sharia is derived from two primary sources of Islamic law: the precepts set forth in the Qur'an, and the example set by the Islamic Prophet Muhammad in the Sunnah. Fiqh jurisprudence interprets and extends the application of Sharia to questions not directly addressed in the primary sources by including secondary sources. These secondary sources usually include the consensus of the religious scholars embodied in ijma, and analogy from the Qur'an and Sunnah through qiyas. Shia jurists prefer to apply reasoning ('aql) rather than analogy in order to address difficult questions. Muslims believe Sharia is God's law, but they differ as to what exactly it entails.[1] Modernists, traditionalists and fundamentalists all hold different views of Sharia, as do adherents to different schools of Islamic thought and scholarship. Different countries and cultures have varying interpretations of Sharia as well. Sharia deals with many topics addressed by secular law, including crime, politics and economics, as well as personal matters such as sexuality, hygiene, diet, prayer, and fasting. Where it enjoys official status, Sharia is applied by Islamic judges, or qadis. The imam has varying responsibilities depending on the interpretation of Sharia; while the term is commonly used to refer to the leader of communal prayers, the imam may also be a scholar, religious leader, or political leader. Aligarh INDIA 1998 fcfc % Introduction This thesis aims at the reassessment of the role of Dara Shukoh in the history of Indian philsophy. In the history of Islam in India. Dara Shukoh holds the position of two sided figure. As heir-apparent of Shah Jahan. he was a political figure. On the other hand, he was a prominent follower of Qadiri order and became a disciple of Miyan Mir and MuUa Shah. Inspired by the sayings and acts of these spiritual preceptors, prominent Sufi works and the acquaintance in his contemporary Sufis. Dara wrote hagiographical works on Sufis including his spiritual preceptors, compiled Sufistic aphorisms and wrote some tracts on Sufism. His study of Hindu scriptures and direct contact with Hindu saints and pandits led him to translate the Upanisads into Persian and write the Majrna' al-Bahrayn (MB) as a treatise on comparative study of philosophy and religion of Sufism and Hinduism. Hindu-Muslim cultural and religious interactions have not received their due share of attraction from modern scholars. -

Applying Shari'a in the West
This volume provides new insights in the concept of shari‘a in the West, and sets out a framework of how shari‘a in the West can be studied. The premise of this volume is that one needs to focus on the question ‘What do Muslims do in terms of shari‘a?’ rather than ‘What is shari‘a?’. Nurul Huda Abstract The UK is a Christian majority country with several minority religious groups like Muslims, Hindus, Jews and Sikhs who have been living there for a long time. All faith groups have their own laws. Likewise, Muslims also have their specific laws called “SharƯ’ah law” or “Muslim Family Law”. This paper attempts to represent a prospect of how Islamic law deals with the issues faced by the Muslims in England and Wales. There are many “The Islamic Shari’ah Council (ISC)” and “Muslim Arbitrational Tribunal (MAT) to solve the family concerns in England and Wales, for instance, marriage, child custody, divorce and other issues related to their matrimonial life.
