A board of directors was selected from the membership of Tattnall Square Baptist Church. Located in North Macon, Tattnall Square Academy is a co- educational day school for students from Pre-K(age 3) through twelfth grade and provides a college preparatory curriculum. There are a total of 500 students enrolled for the 2014-2015 school year, with 141 in grades 9-12, and 55 in the Class of 2015. Every stu- dent is honor bound by our Honor Code System and Pledge to refrain from lying, cheating, and stealing. THE FACULTY Our school has a faculty and professional staff of 78. Thirty three percent have attained advanced degrees. All faculty members meet the same professional learning unit requirements as teachers certified by the State of Georgia. ACCREDITATION Tattnall Square Academy is fully accredited by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (AdvancED), the Southern Association of Independent Schools and is a member of the Georgia Independent School Association along with the Georgia High School Asso- ciation. STUDENT ACTIVITIES Our faculty realizes that each student has his/her own assets and needs. Therefore, we provide a wide variety of activities that attend to the interests of each student’s unique abilities. The following is a list of extracurricular activities currently available at the high school level: Senior Beta Club, Science Club, Junior Beta Club, Student Council, French Club, Band, Y Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Honor Council, The Yearbook Staff, Key Club, Spanish Club, Latin Club, Pep Club, Robotics, and Math Team. Interscholastic athletics are also available . Tattnall is a member of the Georgia High School Association, and we compete in that league in the Class A Division. Tattnall fields the following teams: Band, Baseball, Basketball, Tennis, Football, Cheerleading, Com- petition Cheerleading, Dance Team, Softball, Swimming, Cross Country, Soccer, Track, and Wrestling. COMMUNITY SERVICE Engaging in Community Service allows Tattnall Square Academy to learn about the needs in the world and the ways to help fulfill them. Service provides students with an opportunity to "give back" to the world a measure of the "gifts" they have been given. By fostering a culture of service and connecting it to academic learning, Tattnall Square transforms community service into service- learning. Students are encouraged to embrace the condition of their world and to use their knowledge and skills to support com- munity needs. Community service begins in the 1st grade and by the 12th grade year, the students are required to have 20 hours per year in grades 9-12 . This is a tremendous honor for our school. Originally a residence hall, the building was named for J. Walter Hendricks, principal of First District Agricultural and Mechanical School, whose mission was educating rural schoolchildren. Hendricks Hall now houses a state-of-the-art Public Health Core Laboratory and the College’s four centers of study: the Center for Rural Health and Research, the Center for Survey Research and Health Information, the Center for Biostatistics and the Center for Addiction Recovery. For more information, please contact [email protected]. 2009 - 2010 FACT BOOK http://services.georgiasouthern.edu/osra/factbook.htm On the Cover The Center for Art & Theatre at Georgia Southern University opened on February 29, 2008 and includes three art galleries featuring exhibitions of contemporary art by both artists of note and emerging student artists, as well as a prized permanent collection. The Center is also home to a unique Black Box Theatre with seating for up to 150 people. An adjoining outdoor sculpture garden, the first on the Georgia Southern University campus, provides a fourth exhibition space for sculptural works of art. Guests entering the galleries and theatre are first greeted by a public sculpture, “Ascend,” commissioned by Betty Foy Sanders, wife of former Georgia Governor Carl E. Sanders, and created by artist Marc Moulton. “Ascend” represents the intellectual and spiritual enlightenment the arts bring to our civilization, and is the newest acquisition to the Georgia Artists Collection, a gift to the University that has been curated by Betty Foy Sanders since 1967 and is on permanent display at the Center.
